Marked by the Blood!

Scripture reading for January 19th:  Exodus 9-13

Key Scriptures:  Exodus 12:12-14  “On that same night I will pass through Egypt and strike down every firstborn–both men and animals–and I will bring judgment on all the gods of Egypt.  I am the Lord.  The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are; and when I see the blood, I will pass over you.  No destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt.  This is a day you are to commemorate; for the generations to come you shall celebrate it as a festival to the Lord– a lasting ordinance.”

The Israelites were instructed to take a lamb for a family and slaughter it at twilight.  They were to place the blood on the top  of their door and the sides.  This blood would be a sign to them and to the Lord that they were safe from the plague of death of the firstborn!

Reason for rejoicing:  Jesus Christ, our Passover Lamb, has been sacrificed and His blood can mark each believer by faith!  “Get rid of the old yeast that you may be a new batch without yeast–as you really are.  For Christ, our Passover Lamb, has been sacrificed.”  (1st Corinthians 5:7)
