Rejoicing in God’s Laughter!
Scripture reading for May 29th: Psalm 2-5
Key Scriptures: Psalm 2:1-6 “‘Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together against the Lord and His Anointed One.’ “Let us break Their chains,” they say, “and throw off their fetters.” The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them. Then He rebukes them in His anger and terrifies them in His wrath, saying, “I have installed My King on Zion, My holy hill.”
The psalmist prophetically speaks of a time to come when nations and peoples would plot to overthrow the “Lord and His Anointed One.” The folly of those people viewed God’s laws and decrees as ‘chains’ or ‘fetters’. God’s response was laughter at their folly and resolve to enthrone His King in Zion!
Rejoicing in God’s resolve: About a thousand years later, Peter and believers in the early church quoted Psalm 2:1-2 recorded in Acts 4:25-26 in prayer, rejoicing in God’s power and will! “Indeed Herod and Pontius Pilate met together with the Gentiles and the people of Israel in this city to conspire against Your Holy Servant Jesus, whom You anointed. They did what Your power and will had decided beforehand should happen.” (Acts 4:27-28)
