Faith in the face of death!
Scripture reading for April 19th: John 11, Psalm 79, Proverbs 17
Key Scriptures: John 11:23-27 “Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” Martha said to Him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day.” Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in Me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?” She said to Him, “Yes, Lord: I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, who is coming into the world.””
Lazarus, Mary and Martha’s brother had died and been the tomb for four days. Jesus had purposely delayed coming so that many would believe in Him through the miracle that He would perform by raising him from death. Martha ran to meet Jesus and Jesus quickly assured her that her brother would rise again. Mary confessed faith in God’s Word concerning resurrection in the Old Testament. Jesus went further to state the He alone was the resurrection and the life for all who would believe in Him! This brought a faith confession!
Faith Confession: Jesus, I believe that You are the Christ, Son of God, and the only source of eternal life and truth.
Proverbs 17:3 “The crucible is for silver, and the furnace is for gold, and the Lord tests hearts.”
