The Lord has provided!
Scripture reading for January 13th: Genesis 21-23, Mark 8, Psalm 107
Key Scriptures: Genesis 22:11-13 “But the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” He said, “Do not lay your hand on the boy or do anything to him, for now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me.” And Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him was a ram, caught in the thicket by his horns. And Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up as a burnt offering instead of his son.”
Mark 8:35-37 “”For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it. For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul? For what can a man give in return for his soul?””
Jesus was teaching His disciples on the cost of discipleship. They were called to take up their cross and follow Him, even to the point of giving up their life. In doing so, they would gain life. But if they would just save their life for themselves, they would lose it. Two thousand years earlier, Abraham understood these principles. He offered his promised son, Isaac, on an altar near Jerusalem. God tested his faith and obedience and Abraham passed the test. God provided the sacrifice for his son and would sacrifice His own Son to save all souls.
Faith Confession and prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for giving Your own life for my sinful soul! I am helpless to save myself. Help me today to tell others about Your amazing love and mercy to save all souls
Psalm 107:2 “Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom He has redeemed from trouble.”
