Holy Fear and Obedience!
Scripture reading for February 7th: Exodus 19-20, Psalm 33, Ephesians 5
Key Scriptures: Exodus 20:13-18 “Now when all the people saw the thunder and flashes of lightning and the sound of the trumpet and the mountain smoking, the people were afraid and trembled, and they stood afar off, and said to Moses, “You speak to us, and we will listen; but do not let God speak to us, lest we die.” Moses said to the people, “Do not fear, for God has come to test you, that the fear of Him may be before you, that you may not sin.” The people stood far off, while Moses drew near to the thick darkness where God was.”
After assembling and consecrating the people of Israel, Moses and Aaron prepared to meet with God. The mountain where they were meeting was filled with fire and smoke and shook with rumblings. But the people did not want God to speak to them directly, for they were afraid they would die. Moses assured them that God’s purpose was to instill in them the fear of God–a holy respect, that would keep them from the sin of disobedience and unbelief.
Faith Confession and Prayer: Lord, I thank You for speaking to me and instilling holy fear for Who You are and what You have done for me. Help me to fully obey You each day and live by faith in every Word You have spoken.
Psalm 33:8 “Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in Awe of Him!”
Ephesians 5:20 “. . .giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.”
