The Gift of the Holy Spirit!
Scripture reading for April 23rd: 1st Samuel 9-10, Acts 8
Key Scriptures: Acts 8:14-17 “Now when the apostles at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the Word of God, they sent to them Peter and John, who came down and prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit, for He had not yet fallen on any of them, but they had only been baptized in the Name of the Lord Jesus. Then they laid their hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit.”
Philip went out of Jerusalem following the persecution resulting from Stephen’s stoning. He came to Samaria and began preaching the Gospel of Jesus there and God worked with him showing great signs and wonders. Many believed and were baptized. The apostles heard about this move of God, and sent Peter and John to further instruct the new believers and make sure that they received the Gift of the Holy Spirit following their repentance and baptism. As they laid hands on the new converts, they received the Holy Spirit!
Faith confession and prayer: Lord, thank You for giving me another heart and the Gift of the Holy Spirit to live in me! Help me to proclaim the Gospel prophetically to my generation by filling me with the Holy Spirit afresh each day. Empower me to help others receive this Gift!
1st Samuel 10:9-10 “When he (Saul) turned his back to leave Samuel, God gave him another heart. And all these signs came to pass that day. When they came to Gibeah, behold, a group of prophets met him, and the Spirit of God rushed upon him, and he prophesied among them.”
