Don’t turn back!

Scripture reading for October 20th: Jeremiah 47, 48, 49, Psalm 80, 2nd Peter 2

Key Scriptures: 2nd Peter 2:20-22 “For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first. For it would have been better for them never to have known the way of righteousness than after knowing it to turn back from the holy commandment delivered to them. What the true proverb says has happened to them: “The dog returns to its own vomit, and the sow, after washing herself, returns to wallow in the mire.””

Peter knows that his time of departure through execution is near. He warns those in the church concerning apostasy. Apostasy is turning back from following Jesus Christ after repentance and a decision to follow Him. Peter warns that it will be worse in the final judgment and in the time before for those that do that. It will be like eating vomit after having a banquet or wallowing again in the mire after being cleansed. Don’t turn back to the world’s slop and filth!

Psalm 80:17-18 “But let your hand be on the Man of Your right hand, the Son of Man whom you have made strong for Yourself! Then we shall not turn back from You; give us life, and we will call upon Your Name!”

Faith confession and prayer: Lord Jesus, with Your help and intercession for me, I will never turn back from following You. I have had enough slop and mire in the world!

Jeremiah 48:26 “Make him (Moab) drunk, because he magnified himself against the Lord, so that Moab shall wallow in his vomit, and he too shall be held in derision.”
