King of the Truth! King of Heaven!

Scripture reading for November 16th: Daniel 4-6, John 18

John 18: 35-38 “Jesus answered, “Do you say this of your own accord, or did others say it to you about Me?” Pilate answered, “Am I a Jew? Your own nation and the chief priests have delivered You over to me. What have You done?” Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would have been fighting, that I might not be delivered over to the Jews. But My kingdom is not from the world.” Then Pilate said to Him, “So You are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come into the world–to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to My voice.: Pilate said to Him, “What is Truth?”

Jesus Christ stood before Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor. Jesus had been brought before Pilate by the Jewish leaders and charged with sedition and promoting Himself as king. Pilate asked Jesus what He had done to merit these charges. Jesus answered Pilate by explaining that His kingdom was not of this world. Pilate then made the deduction that Jesus was indeed a king and asked Him. Jesus replied that Pilate had said so. He also stated that this was His purpose for coming into this world and He must bear witness to this Truth. Pilate struggled to know what was truth. Jesus clearly stated that those who were of the Truth would listen to His voice. Pilate sought to release Jesus, but the Jews demanded He be crucified and a robber released instead.

John 18:38-40 “After he had said this, he went back outside to the Jews and told them, “I find no guilt in Him. But you have a custom that I should release one man for you at the Passover. So do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews?” They cried out again, “Not this Man, but Barabbas!” Now Barabbas was a robber.”

Prayer: Father God, I praise You and Your Son Jesus Christ, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords because all Your ways are just and right. You speak Truth and are the Truth. You humbled me and all the proud sinners by offering Truth and Your Son as a sacrifice for our sins. Forgive us, Lord, for not worshiping You as King of Heaven and listening to all Your Words of Truth. As long as I live, I will proclaim “Jesus is King!”

Daniel 4:37 “Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, for all His works are right and His ways are just; and those who walk in pride He is able to humble.”
