Day 4–Jesus Alone is Judge!
Scripture reading for April 30: Matthew 7:1-2 “Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you.” John 5:21-23 “For as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so also the Son gives life to whom He will. The Father judges no one, but has given all judgment to the Son, that all may honor the Son, just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father Who sent Him.”
Another disease of our souls is pride and the judging of others. We all tend to view ourselves through comparison with others. We see the faults of others and the areas of their lives that are broken and judge them in one way or another. We elevate ourselves and fail to use sober judgment on our own faults. (Ecclesiastes 7:21-22)
Jesus, the One designated by the Father as Judge is the only One with the ability to know everything about a person, seen and unseen in the heart. We are instructed not to judge others and pronounce a guilty verdict or pass a sentence. We are guilty ourselves and our judgment is flawed because of sin within. Jesus warned His disciples that the judgment they pronounced on other would be reaped by them and the measure they used would be measured back to them. They were to honor the Father and the Son by leaving all judgment to Him Alone. This requires humility before God and Jesus Christ.
Jesus is the Righteous Judge because He alone took the penalty for sin upon Himself and paid the price of death on all sinner’s behalf. His blood atoned for our sins and all we can do is say ‘thank You’ and in response forgive others instead of holding judgment against them. One day we who are made righteous by Christ, along with the Apostle Paul, can expect the ‘Righteous Judge’ to award us the crown of righteousness. (2 Timothy 4:8)
Prayer: Lord Jesus, the Righteous Judge, I choose to leave all judgment with You. Help me to never act pridefully and judge someone as totally lost or as deserving eternal punishment. Help me to always use a measure of mercy like You have given to me and all who believe on You. Amen.
