“Come, Lord Jesus!”

Scripture reading for December 31st:  Revelation 22, Psalm 149-50, Proverbs 14

Key Scriptures:  Revelation 22:17-21 “The Spirit and the Bride say, “Come.”  And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price.  I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book:  if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book, and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.  He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming soon.”  Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!  The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all.  Amen.”

We end this year’s devotions with the last words of John’s revelation and the last words of Jesus Christ to His Church, the Bride.  The Bride, through the Holy Spirit is praying to the Lord Jesus saying, “Come!”  I believe this simple prayer has two aspects.  The Bride is asking God to bring in the thirsty and those still to be saved.   The Bride is asking Jesus to come for them.  The Lord Jesus answers:  “Surely I am coming soon.”  The Brides answer is “Amen.”  It all occurs by grace through faith!

Faith confession:  Lord Jesus, I join the Bride in praying “Come.”   May the lost and thirsty come to You and find refreshing in the river of life and healing food in the tree of life flowing from Your glorious throne!  “Amen.”  Hallelujah forever and ever!

Psalm 149:1  “Praise the Lord!  Sing to the Lord a new song; His praise in the assembly of the godly!

Psalm 150:6  “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!  Praise the Lord!”

Rejoicing in our Reward!

Scripture reading for December 29th:  Revelation 18-22

Key Scriptures:  Revelation 22:12-15  “Behold, I am coming soon!  My reward is with Me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done.  I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.  Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of Life and may go through the gates into the city.  Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.”

The last words of Jesus Christ recorded by John, the beloved disciple are “I am coming soon!”  Jesus promises that His reward is with him.  He will justly reward all who are His through the washing of their robes in His blood.  Those who overcome will have access to the Tree of Life and freely go in and out of the New Jerusalem.  Those who will be shut out are those who have not repented of sins and have garments stained by them!

Rejoicing in our Reward: “See, the Sovereign Lord comes with power, and His Arm rules for Him.  See, His reward is with Him, and His recompense accompanies Him.  He tends His flock like a shepherd; He gathers the lambs in His arms and carries them close to His heart; He gently leads those that have young.”  (Isaiah 40:10-11)

Amen!

Jesus is Coming Soon!

Scripture reading for December 30th:  Revelation 22:12-21

Key Scriptures for over-comers:  Revelation 22:7, 12, 20-21  “Behold, I am coming soon!  Blessed is he who keeps the words of the prophecy in this book.” . . . . “Behold, I am coming soon!  My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done.”  .  .  .  . “He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon.”  Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.  The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people. Amen.”

The final revelation of Jesus Christ to John during his visit to heaven comes from Jesus Christ, Himself!  He states three times emphatically that He is coming soon!  He reminds His people that His reward is with Him when He comes.  He repeats that each person will be rewarded according to their deeds.  He also emphasizes that some will not enter heaven because of their failure to repent of sins and wash their robes!  (Revelation 22:15)

Observations for over-comers:  Over-comers say “Amen!” and pray for Christ’s prophecy to be fulfilled and long to see His face!

Jesus Christ: “At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn.  They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory.  And He will send His angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather His elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.”  (Matthew 24:30-31)

Come Lord Jesus!

Scripture reading for December 31st: Revelation 22:1-21

“Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb down the middle of the great street of the city.  On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month.  And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.  No longer will there be any curse.  The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and His servants will serve Him.  They will see His face, and His name will be on their foreheads.” (Revelation 22:1-4)

As this magnificent vision came to a climax, John again viewed the throne of God, this time in its setting of the New Jerusalem.  Here the throne had a river flowing from it, coming down the main street.  Along its banks stood the tree of Life, bearing fruit each month.  All His servants would serve God and have access to the water and tree of Life!  They  would see God’s face and reign with Him forever and ever!

“Behold, I am coming soon!  Blessed is he who keeps the words of the prophecy in this book.” (Revelation 22:7)  John was informed of the truth of these words and reminded of the urgency of the message of the book he has written down.  As the promise of blessing was given to those who would read and obey in the beginning, it is now repeated as the vision ended.  (Revelation 1:3)

“Behold, I am coming soon!  My reward is with Me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done.  I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.”  “Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of Life and may go through the gates into the city.  Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.” (Revelation 22:12-15)  Jesus Christ is coming soon!  This is repeated three times!  Some would enjoy blessing and reward, others would be left outside.  Will you be ready for your part in this abundant life? My prayer is that you can say with John and me: “Amen, Come Lord Jesus!” (Revelation 22:20b)

I am coming soon!

Scripture reading for December 31st: Revelation 20-22

The end of the Bible tells of a new beginning!  The faithful in Christ will live in a new heaven and new earth where righteousness dwells!  John saw a Holy City, the New Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God.  This city was prepared like a bride for her husband.  (Revelation 21:2)  A voice from heaven announced that God would dwell among men.  There would be no more tears, crying or pain.  God would make everything new!

But some  will be left out:   The cowardly and unbelieving who have put off  following the Lord!  The murderers and sexually immoral will not be invited in either.  Those practicing the occult and living lies will  be sent to the lake of burning sulfur with all those shut out.  This lake is the second death spoken of at the Great White Throne judgment.  (Revelation 20:14-15)

The New Jerusalem contains the most precious treasures for the redeemed.  There is the River of Life that flows from  God’s throne.  Its banks will be lined with the Tree of Life, bearing fruit each month with leaves for healing.   But the best treasure of all will be God and the Lamb dwelling in their midst and all will see His face!  Living in God’s presence will bring eternal pleasures and joy to all the redeemed!  (Psalm 16:11)

“Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done.  I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.  Blessed are those who wash their robes that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city.” (Revelation 22:12-14)

Three times in this final chapter the Lord speaks of His soon return, and the final “blessed” concerns those who have their wedding clothes ready for His coming!  The Spirit and Bride conclude with an invitation to all to come and join the Bridal party of  those waiting for the soon return!  Just reading the invitation to this party makes me want to be ready!  May you be ready too! Amen! Come Lord Jesus!

Thank you for sharing this journey with me and please join me again next year as we focus on the New Testament in daily readings.

Sunday Rest and Reflection:King Jesus!

Dear Friends,

Greetings on this Resurrection morning!  Christ the Lord is risen indeed!  We are so blessed to have a living Savior who ever lives and promises to come back and take us to Himself!  The grave could not hold Him and Satan was stripped by Him of the keys of death and hell!  The curtain was torn from top to bottom and all who believe on Jesus Christ have access into the throne room of God where Jesus is seated at the Father’s right hand.

Jesus Christ is the King of Peace!  Like Solomon of old, He is a the wisest King who ever lived.  His manifold wisdom was displayed at the cross where He offered Himself to make peace with God the Father for our sins. Isaiah named Him the  Wonderful Counselor, everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace.  (Isaiah 9:6)  We now have peace with God through Jesus Christ!

Jesus Christ is the King of Love!  Greater love has no man than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.  Jesus Christ laid His life down for us, His friends!  His love provided what we really needed to give us eternal life!  His love was demonstrated in perfect obedience to the Father.  His love reaches out to the whole world of lost humanity and draws each person who will respond to saving faith!

Jesus Christ is the King of Kings!  There have been many kings over the ages.  Scripture records many kings of Israel and Judah.  All of them died; some were great and others were evil.  Jesus Christ is the King Eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God!  He was and is perfectly righteous and holy.  He is alive forever and ruling with justice and mercy.  His throne endures forever and His rule will cover all time, space, and matter and every creature that He created!

May the King of Kings grant you His peace and love as you rest in Him this resurrection day!

In His Love,  Pastor John

“I Am Coming Soon!”

Scripture reading for December 31st: Revelation 20-22

The end of the Bible tells of a new beginning!  All who were faithful to Christ get to live in a new heaven and new earth where righteousness dwells.  All who enjoy this new beginning have been faithful and trusted Christ.  He has faithfully done what He promised.

John sees a Holy City, the new Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God.  This city is prepared like a bride for her husband.  (Revelation 21:2)  A voice from heaven announces that the dwelling place of God is among men and He will live with them.  He will comfort them and change the order of their existence.  There will be no more tears, crying or pain.  God is making everything new and His word is sure!

There will be some who won’t enjoy these new eternal accommodations.  These are the cowardly and unbelieving, those who put off deciding to follow the Lord.  Those who are murderers and are sexually immoral will not be invited in.  Those practicing the occult and living lies will also be excluded and sent to the lake of burning sulfur.  This lake is the second death spoken of at the Great White Throne judgment.  (Revelation 20:14-15)

However, the new Jerusalem contains the most precious and beautiful treasures for the redeemed.  There is the river of life that flows from the throne of God.  It’s waters are crystal clear and flowing abundantly.  The banks of the river are lined with the tree of life, bearing fruit each month of the year.  It’s leaves bring healing to the nations.  The best treasure of all is that those who dwell in this city will have God and the Lamb dwelling in their midst and they will see His face!  What blessed peace and joy will be ours when we see Him and behold Him in all His glory!

As we come to the last day of this year, I am so blessed to have been able to write through the entire Bible.  It is something that I haven’t done before but hope to do again next year!  I know that I have experienced Jesus Christ in every book.  I also know the Lord’s heart better and feel that I have grown spiritually in ways that I would not have without writing.  Thank you for sharing this journey with me and please join me again next year!
