Tag: day of God
Scripture reading for August 2nd: Isaiah 16-19
Key Scriptures: “In that day men will look to their Maker and turn their eyes to the Holy One of Israel. They will not look to the altars, the work of their hands, and they will have no regard for the Asherah poles and the incense altars their fingers have made. In that day their strong cities, which they left because of the Israelites, will be like places abandoned to thickets and undergrowth. And all will be desolation. You have forgotten God your Savior; you have not remembered the Rock, your fortress.” Isaiah 17:7-10
Isaiah warned Damascus, a Gentile nation, of a coming day of God’s wrath and judgment. God does nothing by judgment unless He warns people through the prophets. (Amos 3:7) He told them that if they failed to heed the Lord’s warning, they would experience ruined cities and desolation. Forgetting God has terrible consequences!
A strong prophetic voice: “But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar, the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bard. Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming.” (2nd Peter 3:10-12)
