Avoiding self-deception!
Scripture reading for November 1st: James 1
Key Scriptures for over-comers: James 1:22-25 “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it–he will be blessed in what he does.”
There is a danger in being regularly exposed to God’s word. The danger is that we hear and know about what God asks of His people but we become complacent or defiant about applying God’s word to our own lives. This is likened to a person who looks in the mirror to examine his face for dirt but when he looks away that person forgets what he saw! But those who look intently at God’s word in order to do it will be blessed beyond measure!
Observations for over-comers: Over-comers look intently into God’s word to obey it knowing that God’s smile awaits them! “My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and bring you prosperity.” (Proverbs 3:1-2)
