The Lord is my confidence!

Scripture reading for April 1st:  Luke 21, Psalm 65, Proverbs 3

Key Scriptures: Luke 21:33-36 “”Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.  But watch yourselves lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and cares of this life, and that day come upon you suddenly like a trap.  For it will come upon all who dwell on the face of the whole earth.  But stay awake at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.””

Jesus was giving final instructions to His disciples.  He emphasized that His word was eternal and dependable.  He warned them about the traps that would catch men up in the last days:  dissipation, drunkenness and the cares of life.  He encouraged them to stay awake and pray in order to escape the traps and be able to stand before Him at the final judgment.

Faith Confession:  I believe that Your Word is eternal and truth.  I am awake through the infilling of the Holy Spirit and aware of Satan’s traps.  I am trusting Jesus to give me grace to stand before Him when He returns.

Proverbs 3:25-26 “Do not be afraid of sudden terror or of the ruin of the wicked, when it comes, for the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught.”

“Don’t be afraid, just believe!”

Scripture reading for February 16th: Mark 5

Jesus was always on the move, going from place to place as the Spirit led Him.  He was approached by a synagogue ruler who had a daughter who was deathly ill.  “Seeing Jesus, he fell at His feet and pleaded earnestly with Him, “My little daughter is dying.  Please come and put your hands on her so that she will be healed and live.”  So Jesus went with him.”  (Mark 5:22-24)  This man was a religious leader, but his attitude was one of humility and pleading with Jesus for His help.  This indicated that he had faith that Jesus could and would help with this desperate situation.  Jesus honored his faith by going with him.

On the way, a woman with an issue of blood that had tormented her for 12 years sought out Jesus to touch his clothes.  She believed that if she could get close enough to touch Him, she would be healed.  “Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering.  At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from Him.  He turned around in the crowd and asked, “Who touched my clothes?”  (Mark 5:29-30)  She admitted that she had touched him and Jesus responded that her faith had healed her!

In the meantime, servants notified Jairus that his daughter had died and told him not to bother Jesus.  Jesus had simple advice, “Don’t be afraid, just believe.”  (Mark 5:36)  Jesus arrived at the house to find many mourners crying and wailing.  He announced that the child was not dead but asleep!  They laughed at Him and He put them all out.  Taking his trusted disciples, Jesus took the girl by the hand and commanded her to get up.  She arose at His command!  Don’t fear–only believe!

“Don’t be afraid! Believe!”

Scripture reading for February 21st: Mark 5:21-43, Psalms 38:1-22, Proverbs 10:8-9

Jairus was a ruler in the synagogue who came to Jesus for help.  His little daughter was sick and dying and he pleaded with Jesus to come and put His hands on her so that she might be healed.  Jesus agreed to go with him.  (Mark 5:22-23)

A large crowd of people were pressing around them as they moved towards Jairus’ home.  A woman from the crowd had been following Jesus.  This woman had been sick for years with an issue of blood that no doctors had been able to cure.  She had decided that if she could just touch Jesus’ clothes, she would be healed.  As she got close enough, she pressed in and touched his garment.  Jesus immediately felt power go out of Him and asked who had touched Him.  The woman realized that she was healed and confessed that it was she.  Jesus told her that her faith had made her whole and free from suffering!  This is also good news for us in that we can reach out to touch the Lord ourselves and find healing as well!  He is no respecter of persons!

As the woman was healed, servants came and told Jairus that his daughter had died.  It would not be necessary to bother Jesus any more.  “Ignoring what they said, Jesus told the synagogue ruler, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.” (Mark 5:36)  Jesus knew that faith would bring a victory.  He took steps to insure that only people of faith would accompany Him.  He took His trusted disciples, Peter, James and John, and sent the others away.  As they drew near to the house, people were wailing and mourning.  He sought to quiet them by telling them that she was only asleep.  They laughed at Him so He put them all out!  (Mark 5:37-40)  While the child’s mother and father and His disciples looked on, Jesus took the little girl’s hand and spoke with authority commanding her to get up.  Immediately, she responded to His command and all were amazed!

The lesson for us is to focus on believing Jesus and fight our fears.  It is easy to let the natural view to cloud what God wants to do.  Jesus invites those with faith to learn that we can speak with authority and the dead can be raised if we believe!  Lord, increase my faith!
