The over-comers open door!

Scripture reading for December 5th:  Revelation 4

Key Scriptures for over-comers:  Revelation 4:1-3, 8  “After this I looked, and there before me was a door standing open in heaven.  And the voice I had first heard speaking to me like a trumpet said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this.”  At once I was in the Spirit, and there before me was a throne in heaven with someone sitting on it.  And the One who sat there had the appearance of jasper and carnelian.  A rainbow, resembling an emerald, encircled the throne. . . .  Day and night they never stop saying: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come.””

John received the letters to the seven churches and wrote them down as instructed.  Immediately after this, John saw an open door in heaven and Jesus invited him to come up and see what was going to take place on earth in the future.  At the word of Jesus, John was immediately transported (caught up) into heaven and saw a glorious throne there with a brilliant person shining like jewels.  Around this throne were angelic creatures crying “Holy, Holy, Holy. .”

Observations for over-comers:  Our Lord has revealed what will take place at the time of the end.  A “trumpet” will sound and we will be caught up to heaven to meet the Lord!  “A glorious Throne, exalted from the beginning, is the place of our sanctuary!”  (Jeremiah 17:12)

The Lion of the tribe of Judah!

Scripture reading for December 24th: Revelation 4-5

John saw a door open in heaven and heard the voice of Jesus calling him to enter!   He immediately saw the brilliant throne of heaven and One seated on it.  This throne was encircled by an emerald rainbow and radiated flashes of lightning and rumblings of thunder.  This throne was surrounded by 24 thrones with elders seated.  There were four other living creatures that resembled animals with eyes all over them.  These creatures worshiped the One on the throne constantly saying “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is and is to come.” (Revelation 4:8)

The 24 elders responded to the worship of these strange creatures with worship of their own.  They fell down before the throne and cast their golden crowns before the Lord and said: “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.” (Revelation 4:11)   Everything that has life draws it’s life from God.  Many in our culture deny God as creator and feel that their existence is not connected to anything but time and chance.

John next saw a scroll in the right hand of the One on the throne.   A mighty angel spoke out: “Who is worthy to break the seals and open the scroll?” (Revelation 5:2)  No one was found and John began to weep profusely.  One of the elders spoke up and told John to calm down because the Lion of the tribe of Judah would open the scroll!

When John looked, this Lion was none other than a Lamb who had the marks of being slain. The Lamb took the scroll from the One seated on the throne and the 24 elders fell down before the Lamb and began to worship with a new song:  “You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation.  You have made them to be a kingdom and priest to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth.” (Revelation 5:9-10)  The Lion who is also a Lamb is the focus of all heaven and earth!   Jesus Christ is His Name!

The open door!

Scripture reading for December 13th: Revelation 4:1-11

If you knew of a special door that would take you into the throne room of Heaven for a visit, would you be excited or scared?  John was worshiping on the Lord’s day on the island of Patmos, when he had an encounter with Jesus Christ!  Jesus had told him earlier that He was the gate (door) for the sheep to find abundant life!  (John 10:7-10)

“After this I looked, and there before me was a door standing open in heaven.  And the voice I had first heard speaking to me like a trumpet said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this.” (Revelation 4:1)  John heard Jesus speaking and directing him through the open door.  This door lead to a vision of the future and would reveal the events that would soon take place.

“At once I was in the Spirit, and there before me was a throne in heaven and someone sitting on it.  And the One who sat there had the appearance of jasper and carnelian.  A rainbow, resembling an emerald, encircled the throne.” (Revelation 4:2-3)  John was immediately transported in the Spirit through the open door.  God’s throne was the first sight John noticed and it captured his vision.   The throne of God represented all authority and power over heaven and earth and is mentioned forty times in Revelation.   John described the One on the throne in terms of color, light, and precious stones.  The great riches of heaven are not just the streets of gold, but the One who rules there!

In the center of the throne, four living creatures, covered with eyes, worshiped God continually.  These angelic beings cried day and night, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God almighty, who was and is and is to come.” (Revelation 4:8)

Around the throne were twenty four elders also seated on thrones.  They were dressed in white and had golden crowns on their heads.  John got to observe them falling down before God’s throne and laying their crowns at His feet in worship.  Their worship honored God as worthy!  “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for You created all things, and by Your will they were created and have their being.” (Revelation 4:11)  What a privilege to see this vision of heaven through John’s eyes!
