Staying connected to God in trouble!

Scripture Reading for January 23rd:  Exodus 13-15

Have you ever followed the Lord’s direction and gotten into more trouble than you bargained for?  Moses had obeyed the Lord and witnessed the 10 plagues that humbled Pharaoh.  He and Israel had experienced God’s protection and blessing throughout this time, even though they were slaves in Egypt.  The final plague had convinced Pharaoh to send the Israelites away.  The Egyptians gave them many items of silver and gold and God healed their bodies so that there was not one sick among a million or more Israelites.   The lamb that they had eaten and the blood over their doors had brought them amazing deliverance and blessing!  But, trouble was lurking not far behind them and would soon put them between the proverbial “rock and hard place”!

Then Pharaoh changed his mind.  He ordered all his army into mobilization and hot pursuit!  The Israelites, under the direction of the Cloud and Fire of God’s Presence, were camped in the desert by the Red Sea.  They looked up and saw the army of Egypt bearing down on them and “cried out to the Lord”.  (Exodus 14:10-13)  They blamed God and Moses for bringing them out in the desert to die!  What had started out with such joy and blessing now looked like trouble–or death!

But if God is for you, who can be against you?  (Romans 8:31)  When you follow His instructions, the journey may get wild and even scary at times, but you will enjoy the ending!   God told Moses to hold out his staff over the waters.  The waters parted and the Israelites walked over on dry ground between two walls of water.  As soon as the Egyptians were between the walls of water, their wheels started to come off and the Lord fought against them.  Moses held out his staff again and the Egyptians were all drowned in the surging sea!

The lessons for us are plain!  Stay connected with God and trust Him no matter what obstacles you face.  When you find yourself between a “rock and a hard place”, God will direct the way!  Stand still and see the salvation of God!  (Exodus 14:13)

God will make a way!

Scripture Reading for January 24:  Exodus 13-15

Have you ever followed the Lord’s direction and got more than you bargained for?  Moses had obeyed the Lord and witnessed the 10 plagues that humbled Pharaoh and judged the people of Egypt and their gods.  He and Israel had experienced God’s protection and blessing throughout this time, even though they were slaves and had cruel taskmasters.  The final plague had convinced Pharaoh to send the Israelites away.  The Egyptians had given them many items of silver and gold and they went away rich!  God healed their bodies and there was not one feeble or sick person in the company of over one million people!  The lamb that they had eaten and the blood over their doors had brought them amazing deliverance and blessing!  They left Egypt following the cloud of God’s presence by day and a pillar of fire by night!  But, trouble was lurking not far behind them and would soon put them between the proverbial “rock and hard place”!

The Egyptians came to their senses and Pharaoh decided to bring them back.  He ordered all his army into mobilization and hot pursuit! The Israelites, under the direction of God’s cloud and fire, were camped in the desert by the Red Sea.  They looked up and saw the army of Egypt bearing down on them and “cried out to the Lord”.  (Exodus 14:10-13)  They then began blaming  Moses, saying that they should have stayed in Egypt.  They blamed God for bringing them out in the desert to die!

But if God is for you, who can be against you?  (Romans 8:31)  The God of cloud and fire can do anything!  When you are following His instructions, the journey may get wild and even scary at times, but you will enjoy the ending!   Moses held out his staff over the waters.  The waters were parted and the Israelites walked over on dry ground.  As soon as the Egyptians were between the walls of water, their wheels started to come off and the Lord fought against them.  Moses held out his staff again and the Egyptians were all drowned in the surging sea!

The lessons for us are plain!  Follow God closely and trust Him no matter what obstacles you face.  When you find yourself between a “rock and a hard place”, trust God to direct your way!  ” Stand still and see the salvation of God! ” (Exodus 14:13)

The Long Way Around!

Scripture reading for January 23rd: Exodus 13-15

Why does God lead His people into impossible situations?  Does He get a thrill out of seeing His people suffer and experience fear?  Why did God lead the Israelites out of Egypt by way of the desert route instead of the shorter route through the land of the Philistines?  God has His reasons and they are all working for the good of His people if they will follow in faith!

The stated reason why God took these people on the longer route is that they were not ready to fight to possess the land.  God knew that although they were out of Egypt, they still had a slave mentality.  Although they were armed for battle, they did not have the heart for battle! (Exodus 13:17-18)  God led them with a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night.  (Exodus 13:21-22)  This was a visible evidence of His presence with His people.  One would think that this miraculous visible presence of God would convince the people to follow, but miracles do not always change the heart or transform us! God is preparing us by using impossible situations to display His glory!   His grace and glory transform us!

Pharaoh, in the mean time, realized what he had done!  He decided to pursue the Israelites with his chariots and army.  The Israelites saw them coming and began to complain and be fearful.  They would be no match for the Egyptians alone!  They were terrified and cried out! (Exodus 14: 10-12)  Moses reassured them that the Lord was with them and He would fight for them.  (Exodus 14:13)  Having a man of faith as a leader is a great comfort and help when the going gets rough!  Moses knew God and obeyed the Lord as He continued to instruct him!  (Exodus 14:15-17)

God delivered His people through the water of the Red Sea with a miraculous “baptism”.  They walked over on dry land between two walls of water while their enemies were drowned!  This “baptism” would help them to understand God’s ability to do the impossible again and again as they walked with Him!

If you are in a desperate situation today, take a moment to reflect on God’s presence and power.  Allow Him to guide you through the situation to safety on the other side!  Your trouble can reveal His glory!

Between a rock and a hard place!

Scripture Reading for January 23:  Exodus 13-15

Have you ever followed the Lord’s direction and gotten into more trouble than you bargained for?  Moses had obeyed the Lord and witnessed the 10 plagues that humbled Pharaoh and judged the people of Egypt and their gods.  He and Israel had experienced God’s protection and blessing throughout this time, even though they were slaves and had cruel taskmasters.  The final plague had comvinced Pharaoh to send the Israelites away.

The chariots were fueled and the chase was on!  The Israelites, under the direction of the Cloud and Fire of God’s Presence, were camped in the desert by the Red Sea.  They looked up and saw the army of Egypt bearing down on them and “cried out to the Lord”.  (Exodus 14:10-13)  They then began the “blame game” on Moses, saying that they should have stayed in Egypt.  They blamed God for bringing them out in the desert to die!  What had started out so good with such joy and blessing now looked like trouble–or death!

But God fought for them!  If God is for you, who can be against you?  (Romans 8:31)  The God of the pillar of cloud and fire can do anything!  When you are following His instructions, the journey may get wild and even scary at times, but you will enjoy the ending!   Moses had the instructions from the Lord and held out his staff over the waters.  The waters were parted and the Israelites walked over on dry ground between two walls of water.

When you find yourself between a “rock and a hard place”, look to the cloud and the fire to direct the way!  Stand still and see the salvation of God!  (Exodus 14:13)
