Tag: Ezekiel 36:26-27
Scripture reading for June 22nd: Romans 7
Key Scriptures for over-comers: Romans 7:4-6 “So, my brothers, you also died to the law through the body of Christ, that you might belong to another, to him who was raised from the dead in order that we might bear fruit to God. For when we were controlled by the sinful nature, the sinful passions aroused by the Law were at work in our bodies, so that we bore fruit for death. But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been released from the Law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code.”
Jesus Christ came to earth to fulfill the Law and thereby be able to offer Himself–His body and blood–for the sacrificial payment for the sins of all other men born of Adam. Through faith in Christ’s death, we died to the Law of God. In Christ’s resurrection, we also were raised to a new life in order to bear fruit to God. Under the old sinful nature our attitudes and actions bore fruit for death. Sin (breaking God’s Law) always produces death! In Christ we are released from the Law and now have been given new life through the Holy Spirit! He wrote God’s Law on our hearts and leads us in the way of the Spirit!
Observations for over-comers: Over-comers live in the power of the Holy Spirit, they count their sinful nature dead through the cross of Christ and follow the way of the Spirit! “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put My Spirit in you and move you to follow My decrees and be careful to keep My laws.” (Ezekiel 36:26-27)
Scripture reading for April 27th: John 16
Key Scriptures for over-comers: John 16: 12-14 “I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. But when He, the Spirit of Truth, comes, He will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on His own; He will speak only what He hears, and He will tell you what is yet to come. He will bring glory to Me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you.”
We are born into a world of sin and lies. The first lie that we are under is that we can be god ourselves. We are born with that lie and the world seeks to keep us under that futile way of living. But Jesus came to bring abundant life! He would do it by new birth and a gift of eternal life to all who would repent and believe on Him. His resurrection would make available the “gift of the Father”, the Holy Spirit to live in each person. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth. He would lead all Jesus’ followers into the truth by revealing Christ’s words to them and showing them what was to come by revelation. The Spirit would make Christ and His word known and understandable to them, bringing glory to Jesus!
Observations for over-comers: We must welcome the Holy Spirit into our daily life and conversation. He is the Spirit of Truth, making known Christ and His will to us personally. “I will give you a new heart and put a new Spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put My Spirit in you and move you to follow My decrees and be careful to keep My laws.” (Ezekiel 36:26-27)
Scripture reading for March 10th: Luke 5
Key scriptures for over-comers: Luke 5:37-39 “And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. If he does, the new wine will burst the skins, the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, new wine must be poured into new wineskins. And no one after drinking old wine wants the new, for he says, ‘The old is better.'”
The ‘old wine’ of the Law and Mosaic Covenant was all the Israelites knew up to the time of Jesus Christ. They had this ‘wine’ in their old ‘wineskins’. But Jesus Christ came as mediator of a “New Covenant” of grace through faith. This new covenant was not something that could just be added casually to the old teaching and temple rituals without causing trouble and great loss! Jesus used a parable telling about the ‘old’ wineskins and ‘old’ wine and the need for ‘new’ wineskins for ‘new’ wine!
The Israelites would react to the ‘new’ with “The old is better!” Jesus simply stated this to actually teach the opposite! If we have ears to hear what Jesus is saying we learn that the new is better when we need to allow God to give us “new wineskins” to go along with it! When we cling to the ‘old’ religious ways of legalism, we will fail!
Observations for over-comers: Holding on to the ‘old wine’ and ‘old wineskins’ of our past and even our religious past will hinder us from allowing the ‘new wine’ of the Holy Spirit to give us a completely new life and power to over-come! “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heat of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put My Spirit in you and move you to follow My decrees and be careful to keep My laws.” (Ezekiel 36:26-27)
