Scripture reading for November 16th: John 18
Key Scriptures: John 18:33-37 “So Pilate entered his headquarters again and called Jesus and said to Him, “Are You the King of the Jews?” Jesus answered, “Do you say this of your own accord, or did others say it to you about Me?” Pilate answered, “Am I a Jew? Your own nation and the chief priests have delivered you over to me. What have You done?” Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would have been fighting, that I might not be delivered over to the Jews. But My kingdom is not from the world.” Then Pilate said to Him, “So You are a king?” Jesus answered, “For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come into the world–to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to My voice.” Pilate said to Him, “What is truth?””
Jesus was taken before Pontius Pilate because the Jews wanted Jesus to die and they did not have authority to execute anyone. They charged Jesus with insurrection–planning to set Himself up as King. So Pilate asked Jesus if He was the “King of the Jews?” Jesus asked him if this was Pilate’s own idea or others had said that. Pilate evaded answering Jesus but Jesus did answer him. He plainly stated that He was a king with a kingdom that was not of this world. He came to earth to bear witness to the truth and those who were in the truth would hear Jesus’ voice. To this Pilate responded, “What is truth?” proving that he was not himself of the truth. He could hear Jesus’ voice, but the truth of God’s Son, the King of Kings was hidden from his sight because of unbelief! How many others today have the same unbelief?
John 18:38-40 “After he had said this, he (Pilate) went back outside to the Jews and told them, “I find no guilt in Him. but You have a custom that I should release one man for you at the Passover. So do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews?” They cried out again, “Not this Man, but Barabbas!” Now Barabbas was a robber.”
Faith confession and prayer: Lord Jesus, I believe that You are King of Kings, and my Lord. Your kingdom is not of this world and now I am also not of this world. You have told us not to fight, but to love one another in order to show the world that You are the King. Speak to me today directing me in Your ways to proclaim the truth of Jesus Christ the King of kings.
Revelation 19:11,16 “Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. The One sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. . . . On His robe and on His thigh He has a Name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.”
Scripture reading for December 28th: Revelation 19:1-21
Following the announcement of Babylon’s sudden fall, John heard the roar of a great multitude in heaven shouting, “Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God, for true and just are His judgments. He has condemned the great prostitute who corrupted the earth by her adulteries. He has avenged on her the blood of His servants.” (Revelation 19:1-2) Heaven’s multitudes rejoiced in God’s judgments. These had come out of the tribulation and had remained true to God and now were seeing God’s justice in action. The elders around the throne agreed with this worship and cried, “Amen, Hallelujah!”
Next, John heard a great multitude shouting in response to a command from the throne to praise God, “Hallelujah! For our Lord God Almighty reigns. Let us rejoice and be glad and give Him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and His bride has made herself ready. Fine linen, bright and clean, was given her to wear.” (Revelation 19:6-8) The next event was the wedding of the Lamb and the bride was made ready. The wedding garments of fine linen, were the righteous acts of the saints! The deeds of this great multitude would be their clothing at the event. No one would be allowed at the wedding supper without a proper garment! (Matthew 22:11-14) Those invited to this banquet would be blessed! (Revelation 19:9)
“I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider was called Faithful and True. With justice He judges and makes war. His eyes are like blazing fire and on His head are many crowns. He has a name that no one knows but Himself. He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood and His name is the Word of God. The armies of heaven were following Him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. Out of His mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. . .On His robe and on His thigh He has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.” (Revelation 19:11-16)
The heavenly Bridegroom comes on a white horse. He is no longer the Lamb, but now is King of Kings and Lord of Lords! He will strike down the nations and judge those who have not come under His authority. Is He your King?
