Rejoicing in a Holy God!

Scripture reading for February 1st:  Leviticus 11-14

Key Scriptures:  Leviticus 11:44-45  “I am the Lord your God; consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am holy.  Do not make yourselves unclean by any creature that moves about on the ground.  I am the Lord who brought you up out of Egypt to be your God; therefore be holy, because I am holy.”

We can rejoice that our God is holy!  His holiness and perfection are far beyond human comprehension.  In His desire to dwell in the midst of His people, He called them to live a holy life, separated from anything that would hinder their enjoyment of His holiness!  He led the Israelites out of Egypt to show the world a people marked by holiness!

Cause for rejoicing:  God makes us holy by the blood of Jesus Christ so that we can be a people marked by His holy presence.  “And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.”  (Hebrews 10:10)

Holiness is not optional!

Scripture reading for November 8th:  1st Peter 1

Key Scriptures for over-comers:  1st Peter 1:13-16  “Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be give you when Jesus Christ is revealed.  As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance.  But just as He who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”

Peter was writing to Jewish believers that had been scattered throughout the Roman empire because of persecution.  According to Peter, they had been scattered like seed by God in order to produce a crop of Christ-followers as others observed their lives of obedient devotion, grace, and peace.  This truth was to result in action and clear thinking about their mission and Christ’s possible soon return.  Peter called them to holiness and righteous living.  This was not optional but commanded by the unchanging Word of God.

Observations for over-comers:  Over-comers are prepared for Christ’s coming again because of purposeful holiness and obedience to God’s word.   “The Lord said to Moses, “Speak to the entire assembly of Israel and say to them; ‘Be holy because I, the Lord your God, am holy.”  (Leviticus 19:2)
