Jesus, the “burnt offering”!
Scripture reading for February 21st: Leviticus 12-14, Psalm 111, Hebrews 5
Key Scriptures: Hebrews 5:7-9 “In the days of His flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to Him who was able to save Him from death, and He was heard because of His reverence. Although He was a Son, He learned obedience through what He suffered. And being made perfect, He became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him, . . .”
Although Jesus Christ was God’s Son, He came to earth as a man in human flesh. As a man, He experienced pain, temptation, and human fears. But Jesus never gave into sin. Instead He called out to His Father and steadfastly obeyed in the face of the fires of great suffering and death because He took upon Himself all our sins. Through this obedience, Jesus is now the only source of eternal salvation to all who believe on Him and obey His Word.
Faith Confession and Prayer: I trust fully in Jesus Christ, my High Priest, who identified with me and bore my sins in His body on the cross, offering Himself as the sin offering and making atonement for me. Lord, help me to walk in obedience and faith through my trials today, praying without ceasing for Your grace.
Leviticus 14:20 “And the priest shall offer the burnt offering and the grain offering on the altar. Thus the priest shall make atonement for him, and he shall be clean.”
Psalm 111:1-2 “Praise the Lord! I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart, in the company of the upright, in the congregation. Great are the works of the Lord, studied by all who delight in them.”
Reverent submission and obedience!
Scripture reading for October 18th: Hebrews 5, Psalm 59, Proverbs 24
Key Scriptures: Hebrews 5:7-9 “In the days of His flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to Him who was able to save Him from death, and He was heard because of His reverence. Although He was a Son, He learned obedience through what He suffered. And being made perfect, He became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey Him.”
Jesus was the Son of God, but came to earth in a human body, subject to all its weakness and limitations. Jesus relied upon prayer and reverent submission to His Father in heaven and obeyed Him perfectly. He learned obedience through suffering because of it. Because of His willing and perfect obedience, He could become the source of eternal salvation for all who obey Him!
Faith Confession: I believe in Jesus Christ, Son of God and my Savior and freely choose to obey His Word. He is the source of my salvation from the consequences of sin and my power to live a life free from sin by obeying Jesus. I bow in reverence to Jesus Christ, my Savior!
Psalm 59:9-10 “O my Strength, I will watch for You, for You, O God, are my Fortress. My God in His steadfast love will meet me; God will let me look in triumph on my enemies.”
Jesus: Reverent and Obedient!
Scripture reading for October 18th: Isaiah 60-63, Hebrews 5
Key Scriptures: Hebrews 5:7-9 “In the days of His flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to Him who was able to save Him from death, and He was heard because of His reverence. Although He was a son, He learned obedience through what He suffered. And being made perfect, He became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey Him.”
Jesus Christ, our High Priest, was a man of prayer during His time on the earth. He was reverent before His Father, learning obedience through what He suffered. His total obedience to His Father made Him perfect as our source of eternal salvation. He lives forever to intercede for us.
Isaiah 60:1-2 “Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you. For behold, darkness shall cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples; but the Lord will arise upon you, and His glory will be seen upon you.”
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for coming to earth as light from the Father and showing us Your glory. Thank You for Your reverence and perfect obedience. Help me to follow Your example. Amen.
Thankful for an Intercessor!
Scripture reading for April 20th: 1st Chronicles 18-22
Key Scriptures: 1st Chronicles 21:16-17 “David looked up and saw the angel of the Lord standing between heaven and earth, with a drawn sword in his hand extended over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders, clothed in sackcloth, fell face-down. David said to God, “Was it not I who ordered the fighting men to be counted? I am the one who has sinned and done wrong. These are but sheep. What have they done? O Lord my God, let Your hand fall upon me and my family, but do not let this plague remain on your people.”
King David had given place to Satan and called for a numbering of the people. God gave him three choices and David chose to fall under three days of God’s chastisement. As the angel of the Lord was standing ready to strike Jerusalem, David and the elders called out in repentance for God’s mercy. David interceded for the people and asked God to punish him and his family!
Rejoicing in our Intercessor: “During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, He offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the One who could save Him from death, and He was heard because of His reverent submission. Although He was a Son, He learned obedience from what He suffered, and, once made perfect, He became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey Him . . ” (Hebrews 5:7-9)
