Thankful for Faith’s Confession!
Scripture reading for November 21st: Romans 10-13
Key Scriptures: Romans 10:8-11 “But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,” that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,: and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. As the Scripture says, “Anyone who trusts in Him will never be put to shame.”
Paul continues to teach the simplicity of faith to his fellow Jews. Using background from Deuteronomy, Paul quotes Scripture to seek to see his brothers and sisters come to the simplicity of faith. It involves the heart where the choice to believe God’s word takes place. It is confirmed by the mouth where the confession of “Jesus is Lord” is spoken in faith held by the heart. All who put trust in Jesus Christ will never be put to shame! Hallelujah!
The simplicity of faith: “Now what I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach. It is not up in heaven, so that you have to ask, “Who will ascend into heaven to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?” Nor is it beyond the sea, so that you have to ask, “Who will cross the sea to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?” No, the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it.” (Deuteronomy 30:11-14)
