The Mighty One!
Scripture reading for August 7th: Isaiah 29-33
Key Scriptures: Isaiah 33:20-22 “Look upon Zion, the city of our festivals; your eyes will see Jerusalem, a peaceful abode, a tent that will not be moved; its stakes will never be pulled up, nor any of its ropes broken. There the Lord will be our Mighty One. It will be like a place of broad rivers and streams. No galley with oars will ride them, no mighty ship will sail them. For the Lord is our Judge, the Lord is our Lawgiver, the Lord is our King; it is He who will save us.”
God called His people to look upon Mount Zion, Jerusalem the peaceful city. It was likened to a tent that would never be moved. It would be like a place of broad rivers and streams, although no natural river was there. The River there would would flow from the throne of God and bring life and peace to all the inhabitants! God would be Judge, Lawgiver, and King! This last verse inspired the writers of our constitution to create three branches of government–judicial, legislative and executive.
Rejoice in our King’s rule: “Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and His servants will serve Him. They will see His face and His name will be on their foreheads.” (Revelation 22:1-4)
