Rejoicing in the Spirit!
Scripture reading for November 22nd: Romans 14-16, 1st Corinthians 1-2
Key Scriptures: 1st Corinthians 2:7-10 “No, we speak of God’s secret wisdom, a wisdom that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began. None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. However, as it is written: “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him”–but God has revealed it to us by His Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.”
God’s ‘secret wisdom’ was that through the sacrificial death of His only Son, Jesus Christ, that access to God would be given to all who by faith believe in Him. This wisdom was hidden from the rulers of this world at the time Jesus was on earth. But now that Jesus has died and rose again and sent His Father’s gift, the Holy Spirit, God has opened up the unfathomable riches of His wisdom and eternal kingdom to all believers! The best is yet to come!
Thankful for hidden wisdom: “For when You did awesome things that we did not expect, You came down, and the mountains trembled before You. Since ancient time no one has heard, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides You, who acts on behalf of those who wait for Him.” (Isaiah 64:3-4)
Revelation wisdom!
Scripture reading for July 7th: 1st Corinthians 2
Key Scriptures for over-comers: 1st Corinthians 2:6-10 “We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. No, we speak of God’s secret wisdom, a wisdom that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began. None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. However, as it is written: “No eye as seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him”–but God has revealed it to us by His Spirit. The Spirit searches the deep things of God.”
Paul’s Gospel message was ‘God’s secret wisdom’ that had been hidden until Jesus Christ revealed it to all mankind. This wisdom revealed that Jesus Christ was and is the eternal Son of God and that through faith in His life and sacrificial death all men, Jew and Gentile, could be made righteous and receive eternal life. Ancient people of God desired to have God “rend the heavens and come down.” (Isaiah 64:1) God did that in sending His Son! Now through the Son, the Father’s gift of the Holy Spirit has been made available to all men and reveals the ‘deep things of God’ to His people! These deep things include our sonship, adoption, suffering, persecution, inheritance, and ultimate destiny.
Observations for over-comers: Over-comers now can live with revelation knowledge and understanding of the deep things of God through the baptism in the Holy Spirit. “For when You did awesome things that we did not expect, You came down, and the mountains trembled before You. Since ancient times no one has heard, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides You, who acts on behalf of those who wait for Him.” (Isaiah 64:3-4)
Expectations exceeded!
Scripture reading for May 9th: Acts 3
Key Scriptures for over-comers: Acts 3:2-8 “Now a man crippled from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those going into the temple courts. When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money. Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said, “Look at us!” So the man gave them his attention, expecting to get something from them. Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong. He jumped to his feet and began to walk.”
A crippled man was begging for money as Peter and John came by going to the temple. They heard his plea and looked at him asking for his attention. The man looked at them expectantly. But what they gave him was not what he was expecting! They spoke the name of Jesus Christ over him and commanded him to get up and walk! They even took him by the hand and helped him up! As he responded, he stood up and began to walk. Next he was leaping and jumping and praising God! There is power in the name of Jesus!
Observations for over-comers: Faith has great expectation. God honors faith in those who call out in Jesus’ name! “For when You did awesome things that we did not expect, you came down, and the mountains trembled before You. Since ancient times no one has heard, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides You, who acts on behalf of those who wait for Him.” (Isaiah 64:3-4)
