Priest and Ark!
Scripture reading for August 7: 2 Chronicles 6:40-42 “Now, O my God, let Your eyes be open and Your ears attentive to the prayer of this place. “And now arise, O Lord God, and go to the ark of Your might. Let Your priests, O Lord God, be clothed with salvation, and let your saints rejoice in Your goodness. O Lord God, do not turn away the face of your anointed one! Remember Your steadfast love for David Your servant.”
This passage is taken from Solomon’s prayer of dedication of the temple he had built to house the ark of God. He had asked that God would always have His eyes and ears attentive to the prayers of His people as they prayed there before Him. Even when they had been taken captive and would pray towards that place, he asked God to pay attention and act. Solomon closed by inviting God to arise and dwell in the ark in the midst of His people. He asked that His priests would be clothed with salvation and that all the saints would rejoice in God’s amazing goodness and love that endures forever! Solomon asked for himself that God would not turn away His Face from him as his anointed one to lead His people.
This prayer was given by Solomon around one thousand years before Christ under the Old Covenant of Law. But today under the New Covenant, we have something much better. As believers in Jesus, we have been told to ask for anything in His Name and He would do it. (John 14:13-14) This is because Jesus Christ, the Son of God, has anointed us as His priests. He has purchased our salvation through His final sacrifice. We can now rejoice in His goodness as His saints, set apart for His glory and purposes. We are now the ‘Holy of Holies’ where God’s presence dwells through the Holy Spirit. We do not need to go to a ‘temple’ or turn towards a location on earth. Not only do we have what we ask for, but eternal life and joy unspeakable are ours!
Prayer: Father God, thank You for opening heaven’s door through Jesus Christ for salvation, healing, and relationship with joy. Help me to ask You in faith for every need and wisdom to walk with You indwelling me. Amen.
Day 4–God’s Amazing Promise
Scripture reading for January 22: John 14:13-14 “Whatever you ask in My Name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask Me anything in My Name, I will do it.”
God’s emergency response communication network is built on personal relationships. God reaches out to each person inviting them into a relationship with Him through His Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus builds a friendship with each person and knows all about them and their strengths, gifts and weaknesses. He invites each person to get to know Him and to become comfortable asking for information or direction and walking by faith with Him. Jesus prepares those who walk with Him to become disciples and then sends them out to respond to those who are hurting or in need.
Out of our relationship with Jesus, He invites and encourages each person to ask the Father in His Name for whatever they have need of. As men and women have called upon the Lord and walked with the Lord for thousands of years, Jesus calls His followers to do the same. His Name represents all that He is as King of kings and Lord of lords. It gives access to His power and knowledge and insight. This promise reveals God’s desire to show us love in meeting our needs, regardless of cost. It promises continuous access to God and His emergency call-in system.
We already know how important relationships are in the function of fast and effective response to incidents. We can see how we can draw on other resources not provided through our job but through our relationship with Jesus. Wise first responders maintain healthy relationships in the departments we serve in and with our Lord through daily prayer and devotions.
Prayer: Father God, thank You for providing a simple plan of communications that provides access to whatever we need through asking You in Jesus’ Name. Help me to remember this communication promise and humbly ask You for the help needed as I do the best I can with what You gave me. Amen.
Thankful for Answered Prayer!
Scripture reading for August 28th: Jeremiah 32-35
Key Scriptures: Jeremiah 32:26 “Then the Word of the Lord came to Jeremiah: “I am the Lord, the God of all mankind, Is anything too hard for me?”
Jeremiah 33:2-3 “”This is what the Lord says, He who made the earth, the Lord who formed it and established it–the Lord is His Name: ‘Call to Me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.'”
God has invited His people to talk with Him. He introduces Himself as “The God of all mankind”, “The Creator and One who sustains the earth.” He asked Jeremiah the question: “Is anything too hard for Me?” Usually when God asks a question, it isn’t because He needs our answer! The invitation is to call on Him for anything and everything. He promises to answer and reveal amazing truths to help us on our way to His House!
Thankful for prayer promises: Jesus the Son of God to His followers: “And I will do whatever you ask in My Name that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in My Name, and I will do it.” (John 14:13-14) “If you remain in Me and My Words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you. This is to My Father’s glory that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be My disciples.” (John 15:7-8)
