Thankful for strong preachers!
Scripture reading for October 17th: Matthew 12-16
Key Scriptures: Matthew 12:39-41 “He answered, “A wicked and adulterous generation asks for a miraculous sign! But none will be given it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for they repented a the preaching of Jonah, and now One greater than Jonah is here.””
The Son of God, Jesus Christ used the prophet Jonah as an example of strong preaching and as a type of His own life, death and resurrection. The Ninevites repented in sack-cloth and ashes at Jonah’s preaching and were spared God’s imminent wrath . The people listening to the Son of God would be condemned for their lack of response by the people of Nineveh! Jesus would give them the ultimate miraculous sign, resurrection from the grave after three days!
Thankful for powerful preachers: “But the Lord provided a great fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was inside the fish three days and three nights.” (Jonah 1:17) “Jonah obeyed the word of the Lord and went to Nineveh. . . . .He proclaimed: “Forty more days and Nineveh will be overturned.” The Ninevites believed God. they declared a fast, and all of them, from the greatest to the least, put on sack-cloth.” (Jonah 3:3-5)
