Up close and personal!

Scripture reading for November 22nd: 1st John 1

Key Scriptures: 1st John 1:1-4 “That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the Word of Life–the Life was made manifest, and we have seen it, and testify to it and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was made manifest to us; that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ. And we are writing these things so that our joy may be complete.”

As the apostle John wrote this letter to the Church of Jesus Christ, he emphasized that he hadn’t gotten second-hand information to share with them. He had heard Jesus personally for over three years then saw and touched Him after the resurrection and now had fellowship with Jesus abiding in him through the Holy Spirit. He shared with the Church so that they too might have deeper personal fellowship with him and other believers, as well as with the Father and Son. John wrote to make his joy complete as he was obeying His Father and pleasing Him.

1st John 1:5-6 “This is the message we have heard from Him and proclaim to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with Him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.”

Faith confession and prayer: Father God, I thank You again for the eye-witnesses of Your Son Jesus Christ. Thank You for their anointed testimony and proclamation of His message. You have revealed the light of His glory in Jesus Christ and I have fellowship with other believers and with the Father and Son through the Holy Spirit, Your gift to me. I humbly confess my need for ongoing cleansing of my sin that I may walk in Your light.

1st John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Rejoicing in Love for God!

Scripture reading for February 17th: Deuteronomy 3-6

Key Scriptures:  Deuteronomy 6:4-7  “Hear, O Israel:  The Lord our God, the Lord is One.  Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.  These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts.  Impress them on your children, . .”

The Israelites were admonished by Moses to remember that God is One!  He is the One and only God who is worthy of their love.  They must love Him with all that is within them.  They are to show their love by keeping His commandments and impressing them on succeeding generations.

Rejoicing:  Jesus set our example of loving His Father by keeping all His commands.  He sent His Holy Spirit to live in us.  “If you obey My commands, you will remain in My love, just as I have obeyed My Father and remain in His love.  I have told you this so that My joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.”  (John 15:10-11)

No one will take away your joy!

Scripture reading for April 28th:  John 16

Because He was soon leaving them, Jesus warned the disciples of coming persecution.  They would be put out of the synagogue and some would be killed by people thinking that they were doing God a favor.  People who would do this did not know Jesus or the Father.  This warning would help them to know that what was happening to them was in God’s plan and understanding.

“But I tell you the truth, it is for your good that I am going away.  Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you.  When He comes, He will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment in regard to sin, because men do not believe in Me. . .” (John 16:7-9) “But when He, the Spirit of Truth, comes, He will guide you into all truth.  He will not speak on His own; He will speak only what He hears, and He will tell you what is yet to come.  He will take of Mine and make it known to you.”  (John 16:13-14)

Jesus would not leave His followers alone or helpless.  They would have a Counselor who would come to them and live in them. This Spirit of Truth would take the things of Jesus and reveal them to the disciples.  He would guide them into all truth and tell them things to come.  They would be able to ask the Father for anything in Jesus’ Name and He would do it for them!  (John 16:23-24)  What amazing words of encouragement and hope from our Savior! His Spirit will keep us close to Jesus by taking His words and revealing them to us!
