The Worthy Lamb!

Scripture reading for December 8th: Revelation 5

Key Scriptures: Revelation 5:6-9 “And between the throne and the four living creatures and among the elders I saw a Lamb standing, as though it had been slain, with seven horns and with seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth. And He went and took the scroll from the right hand of Him Who was seated on the throne. And when He had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each holding a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. And they sang a new song, saying, “Worthy are You to take the scroll and to open its seals, for You were slain, and by Your blood You ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation, and You have made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they shall reign on the earth.””

John had been caught up into heaven’s open door by the Spirit and beheld the things which were to come. In this vision, John saw in the right hand of the One on the throne, a scroll that was sealed with seven seals. An angel asked who was worthy to open the scroll, and no one was found in heaven or on earth or under the earth to open the scroll. John began to weep loudly when one of the twenty-four elders spoke to him, telling him not to weep, because the “Lion of the tribe of Judah” had conquered and was worthy and able. Then John beheld a Lamb standing with the marks of crucifixion, Who went and took the scroll from the One seated on the throne. At this all around the throne and in heaven and on earth began to sing a new song to the Worthy Lamb!

Revelation 5:11-12 “Then I looked, and I heard around the throne and the living creatures and the elders the voice of many angels, numbering myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice, “Worthy is the Lamb Who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!

Faith confession and prayer: Father God, thank You for sending Your Son as the Lamb of God Who was slain for my sins and the sins of the whole world! He alone is Worthy to inherit all things, taking the title deed to the universe and its wealth! I freely choose to worship Him with the hosts around the throne in heaven, on earth and under the earth! Glory to the Lamb!

Revelation 5:13-14 “And I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, saying, “To Him Who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!”

Worship the Worthy One!

Scripture reading for December 7th: Nehemiah 1-3, Revelation 5

Key Scriptures: Revelation 5:11-13 “Then I looked, and I heard around the throne and the living creatures and the elders the voice of many angels, numbering myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice, “Worthy is the Lamb Who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!” And I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, saying, “To Him Who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!”

Worship in heaven is awesome to behold and enter into. John was shown the throne room of heaven and the activity going on there. There was a seven-sealed scroll in the right hand of God. The question went out as to who was worthy to open the scroll and break the seals. No one in heaven or on earth was able to open the scroll or look in it. Then one of the elders spoke, “Behold the Lion of the tribe of Judah, has conquered, so that He can open the scroll and its seven seals.” As John looked, he saw “a Lamb standing, as though it had been slain,” the Lord Jesus Christ alone was worthy! Worship flowed as Christ Jesus took the scroll!

Faith confession and prayer: Lord Jesus, You alone are worthy to receive all my worship, allegiance, and service, now and forever and ever! You are the Lion of the tribe of Judah, and the Lamb slain for my sins and the sins of the world.

Nehemiah 1:5-6 “And I said, “Oh Lord God of heaven, the great and awesome God Who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those Who love Him and keep His commandments, let Your ear be attentive and Your eyes open, to hear the prayer of Your servant that I now pray before You day and night for the people of Israel Your servants, confessing the sins of the people of Israel, which we have sinned against You. Even I and my father’s house have sinned.”

The Lamb takes the Scroll!

Scripture reading for December 7th:  Revelation 5

The prophet Daniel saw the “Ancient of Days” (God the Father) seated on a throne and “One like a Son of Man” (Jesus Christ) coming with the clouds of heaven before that throne to receive authority, power, glory, and worship from all peoples in a kingdom that was eternal.  (Daniel 7:9-14)  Daniel’s vision was strikingly similar to what John saw!

“Then I saw in the right hand of Him who sat on the throne a scroll with writing on both sides and sealed with seven seals.  And I saw a mighty angel proclaiming in a loud voice, “Who is worthy to break the seals and open the scroll?”  . . .Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep!  See the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed.  He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.”  (Revelation 5:1-2, 5)  John wept when initially no one was found who could open the scroll.  This scroll contained the inheritance of the kingdom for the Son of Man, the Lion of the tribe of Judah!  Also involved was the plan of future events that would unfold this kingdom and  reward the faithful Saints.

“Then I saw a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, standing in the center of the throne, encircled by the four living creatures and the elders.  .   .  .He came and took the scroll from the right hand of Him who sat on the throne.  And when He had taken it the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb.  .  . ..And they sang a new song:  “You are worthy to take the scroll and open its seals, because you were slain, and you have purchased men for God from every tribe and people and nation.  You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth.”  (Revelation 5:6-7, 9-10)  Amen!

Worthy is the Lamb!

Scripture reading for December 14th: Revelation 5:1-14

John, continuing his tour of the throne room of heaven,  noticed a scroll in the hand of the One on the throne.  A mighty angel cried out:  “Who is worthy to break the seals and open the scroll?” (Revelation 5:2)  John wept that no one was found in heaven or earth  who could open the scroll.

“Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep!  See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed.  He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.”  Then I saw a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, standing in the center of the throne, encircled by the four living creatures and elders.” (Revelation 5:5-6a)  Long ago, God had foretold that the tribe of Judah would bring forth a ruler over the nations.  (Genesis 49:10)   At another time, God had foretold that the line of David would bring a King who would rule eternally!  (2nd Samuel 7:9-16)

But it was not apparent to John that this was the Lion of Judah, for he saw a Lamb, looking like it had been slain!  This Lamb was worthy to open this scroll and read its contents.  The elders around the throne sang a new song:  “You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because You were slain, and with Your blood You purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation.  You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth.” (Revelation 5:9-10)  The Lamb’s sacrifice of His blood purchased men for God!  All men are lost and sold into slavery to sin.  The price of full redemption was the blood of the Lamb of God who would take away the sins of the world!  (John 1:29)

John looked again and heard the voices of many angels worshiping around the throne.  Then he heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth  and on the sea singing:  “To Him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb, be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!” (Revelation 5:13)  Heaven and earth were in unison and focused on the throne of heaven.  Their worship was giving glory to the One on the throne and to this Lamb–for ever and ever!
