“He has risen!”
Scripture reading for February 5th: Mark 16
Key Scriptures: Mark 16:1-7 “When the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, so that they might go and anoint Him. And very early on the first day of the week, when the sun had risen, they went to the tomb. And they were saying to one another, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance of the tomb?” And looking up, they saw that the stone had been rolled back–it was very large. And entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, dressed in a white robe, and they were alarmed. And he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, Who was crucified. He has risen; He is not here. See the place where they laid Him. But go, tell His disciples and Peter that He is going before you to Galilee. There you will see Him, just as He told you.”
Early on the first day of the week, the three women who loved Jesus purchased spices and went to the tomb of Jesus to anoint His body for burial. It had been a rushed burial because of the Passover and the Sabbath. The women wondered aloud how they might move the large stone covering the tomb, when to their surprise, it had been rolled away. Going inside, a man dressed in white greeted them with amazing good news. Jesus, Whom they sought, was not there! He had risen from death. The place where He was laid was empty, except for some folded grave clothes. The “man” gave them instructions: “Go and tell His disciples–and Peter.” Jesus would appear to them later in Galilee, just as He had told them.
Psalm 16:10-11 “For You will not abandon my soul to Sheol, or let Your holy one see corruption. You make known to me the path of life; in Your presence there is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”
Faith confession and prayer: Lord Jesus, the empty tomb speaks amazing grace to all who believe in You as the Son of God. Thank You for these women who loved Jesus and testified of the good news they received on resurrection morning! May I have opportunity to share this truth today!
Mark 16:19-20 “So then the Lord Jesus, after He had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God. And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by accompanying signs.”
Rejoicing in the Man at God’s Right Hand!
Scripture reading for October 25th: Mark 12-16
Key Scriptures: Mark 16:19-20 “After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, He was taken up into heaven and He sat a the right hand of God. Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed His word by the signs that accompanied it.”
The Lord Jesus gave final instructions to His disciples about their mission and His presence with them to accomplish the assigned work. They were to go into all the world and preach the Gospel and signs would accompany them. All who believed would be saved and those who refused to believe would be condemned! It was as simple as that. After these instructions, Jesus Christ was taken up to heaven and seated at God’s right hand, the position of highest honor! The disciples would offer God’s enemies a chance to become children!
Rejoicing in Jesus Christ: “The Lord says to my Lord: “Sit at My right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for Your feet.” The Lord will extend your might scepter from Zion; You will rule in the midst of your enemies.” (Psalm 110:1-2)
Disciples are not alone!
Scripture reading for March 2nd: Mark 16
Key scriptures for over-comers: Mark 16:19-20 “After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, He was taken up into heaven and He sat at the right hand of God. Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed His word by the signs that accompanied it.”
Jesus appeared to the disciples a number of times after the resurrection to prepare them for their ultimate mission to reach the lost people of all nations. Jesus conferred His authority on them to go and preach the “good news to all creation.” (Mark 16:15) He promised them that as they went and preached this ‘good news’ that they would not be alone but He would work with them confirming their message with miraculous signs. These signs would be Christ’s way of showing His love to the lost and confirming the authenticity of His disciples. It would require the disciples to walk by faith and do what Jesus commanded them to do–reach out to lost people everywhere! Mark records that they were sent and then they went!
Observations for over-comers: Christians want to see the signs and miracles but are not being obedient to go and preach to the lost! We must be going and preaching the good news and Jesus will do His part! “One generation will commend Your works to another; they will tell of Your mighty acts. They will speak of the glorious splendor of Your majesty, and I will meditate on Your wonderful works. They will tell of the power of Your awesome works, and I will proclaim your great deeds.” (Psalm 145:4-6)
