Learning contentment!

Scripture reading for September 6th:  Philippians 4

Key Scriptures for over-comers: Philippians 4:11-13  “I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.  I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty.  I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed of hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.  I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.”  

Paul was in jail in Rome and had to depend on the churches he had founded for his support.  In reality, Paul knew it was Christ who provided for his needs and the needs of the church!  But sometimes, he was hungry and had no food.  At other times he had needs that no one met and he felt alone and suffered.  But Paul shared the secret of his learning to be content with whatever circumstances he found himself in:  He could do all things through Jesus Christ who gave him strength.  He was not alone and in Christ he could be content knowing that “my God will meet all your needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus.”  (Philippians 4:18)

Observations for over-comers:  The choice to rest in Christ Jesus and His strength and ability to meet every need keeps us full of joy and contentment no matter what our life-circumstance.  “Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior.  The Sovereign Lord is my strength; . .”  (Habakkuk 3:17-18)
