Wise to what is good!

Scripture reading for June 6th: Romans 16, Psalm 112, Proverbs 19

Romans 16:17-20 “I appeal to you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them. For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naive. For your obedience is known to all, so that I rejoice over you, but I want you to be wise for what is good and innocent as to what is evil. The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.”

Paul closes his letter to the Roman believers by personally sending greetings by name to over thirty workers there, plus their families! His last appeal is for watchfulness over the brothers for those causing doctrinal divisions. These people are not serving Christ Jesus, but their own appetites. They try to seduce those who are young and immature. Paul encourages them in their obedience. His pastoral desire is that they stand firm, opposing evil and standing strong for good. He encourages them that God’s power will soon crush Satan and his evil schemes through the grace flowing from Jesus Christ! He rejoices in this prospect and their obedience!

Psalm 112:1-2 “Praise the Lord! Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who greatly delights in His commandments! His offspring will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed!”

Prayer: Father God, thank You for being a God of peace that gives His people victory and discernment. Thank You for Your amazing Word and instruction and the peace that is ours through Your promises. I claim that my offspring will be mighty in the land and that those following me in faith will be blessed by You and protected and used for Your glory!

Proverbs 19:23 “The fear of the Lord leads to life, and whoever has it rests satisfied; he will not be visited by harm.”

The blessing of sharing our faith!

Scripture reading for October 11th:  Philemon, Psalm 54, Proverbs 19

Key Scriptures:  Philemon 4-7 “I thank my God always when I remember you in my prayers, because I hear of your love and of the faith that you have toward the Lord Jesus and for all the saints, and I pray that the sharing of your faith may become effective for the full knowledge of every good thing that is in us for the sake of Christ.  For I have derived much joy and comfort from your love, my brother, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed through you.”

Paul wrote to Philemon, a friend and fellow church member, from prison.  This letter accompanied Onesimus, Philemon’s run-away slave who had been miraculously saved under Paul’s ministry in Rome.  Paul wrote to ask Philemon to receive Onesimus as a brother.  As he began the letter,  he thanked God for Philemon’s faith and love for Jesus and for his ministry of refreshing the other believers in the church.  He prayed that Philemon would possess a full knowledge of every good thing in him through the sharing of his faith.

Faith Confession:  Through the sharing of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, I have come to a more complete knowledge of everything I have in Jesus Christ my Lord.   Lord, fill me with faith and love to refresh the saints!

Proverbs 19:23 “The fear of the Lord leads to life, and whoever has it rest satisfied; he will not be visited by harm.”

Faith sounding forth!

Scripture reading for September 12:  Proverbs 19-21, 1st Thessalonians 1

Key Scriptures:  1st Thessalonians 1:8-10  “For not only has the Word of the Lord sounded forth from you in Macedonia and Achaia, but your faith in God has gone forth everywhere, so that we need not say anything.  For they themselves report concerning us the kind of reception we had among you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come.”

Paul commended the Thessalonians for their faith that exhibited itself in action.  They had turned to God wholeheartedly from the idols they once served.  They preached the Word to those around them.  These works were because they believed in the return of their Lord Jesus from heaven to save them from judgment.

Proverbs 19:23  “The fear of the Lord leads to life, and whoever has it rests satisfied; he will not be visited by harm.”

Proverbs 21:21  “Whoever pursues righteousness and kindness will find life, righteousness and honor.”

Prayer:  Lord, thank You for the revelation of Jesus Christ as Savior, Lord, and coming King.  Lead me into a life of resounding faith that draws others to You.  Amen.
