A new and better covenant!

Scripture reading for March 14th: Hebrews 8, Psalm 52, Proverbs 21

Hebrews 8:10-13 “For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days declares the Lord. I will put My laws into their minds, and write them on their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. And they shall not teach, each one his neighbor and each one his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they shall all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest. For I will be merciful toward their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more.” In speaking of a new covenant, He makes the first one obsolete. And what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.”

God deals justly and righteously with His people through covenant relationship. Covenants spell out clearly the responsibilities of each party. There are blessings for those who joyfully fulfill their responsibilities and curses for those who willfully disregard their obligations. Under the Old Covenant of Law, God’s mercy and instruction offered through His laws brought resistance and rebellion in the human heart. The law was written on tablets of stone, reflecting the unredeemed human heart. But in the New Covenant, made through the Son of God and His sacrifice of blood and body, God made new promises to write His law on the tables of our hearts and give us understanding in our minds by grace through faith. He would forgive our sins and be our God, taking us as His own people! God is faithful to His Covenant!

Psalm 52:8-9 “For I am like a green olive tree in the house of God. I trust in the steadfast love of God forever and ever. I will thank You forever, for You have done it. I will wait for Your Name, for it is good, in the presence of the godly.”

Prayer: Father God, thank You for this New Covenant of grace through faith in Jesus Christ. I have come to trust in Your steadfast love and grace through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. I now have Your laws of love written on my heart and mind and delight to do Your will. I will praise Your Name forever and ever, and live as a green olive tree, full of sap and life through Your Holy Spirit!

Importance of love and unity!

Scripture reading for June 14th: Proverbs 19-21, Psalm 40, Romans 16

Romans 16: 16-20 “Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the churches of Christ greet you. I appeal to you, brothers to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them. For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naive. For your obedience is known to all, so that I rejoice over you, but I want you to be wise as to what is good and innocent as to what is evil. The God of peace will soon crush Satan under you feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.”

Paul’s final thoughts for the Romans including greeting many of the believers by calling out their names and what he was thankful for in their lives and service to Christ. He encouraged unity and love to flow genuinely between believers and emphasized that all churches greeted them in the same Spirit of Christ But the leadership needed to be watchful over the church for those who had other motives and caused divisions through twisted doctrines and legalism. Paul did not want the division to sow strife and evil talk and accusations in the church. God was and is a God of peace and it is Satan behind the division. Through grace and peace and unity, God would soon crush Satan under those believers feet! (And ours!)

Psalm 40:4 “Blessed is the man who makes the Lord his trust, who does not turn to the proud, to those who go astray after a lie!”

Prayer: Father God, I have made You my Trust and value Your Word as truth. Help me to live in unity and harmony with each member of Your Body, the Church. Help me to watch out for those who are divisive and do not follow sound doctrine but are greedy and follow their appetites. As we pursue You and the truth of Your Word, we trust You to crush Satan under our feet as we walk with You.

The Founder of Salvation

Scripture reading for October 15th:  Hebrews 2, Psalm 56, Proverbs 21

Key Scriptures: Hebrews 2:9-10 “But we see Him who for a little while was made lower than the angels, namely Jesus, crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone.  For it was fitting that He, for whom and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the founder of their salvation perfect through suffering.”

The writer of Hebrews shared how God the Father sent His Son from heaven to earth, to take a position lower than the angels.  Jesus willingly suffered death, taking the penalty for our sins upon His own body and suffering that taste of death for each one who would believe on Him.  God then crowned His own Son with glory and honor, declaring Him perfect through His obedient life,  by raising Him from death.   Jesus is the founder of all salvation!

Faith Confession:  I believe in Jesus Christ, Son of God and Son of Man, who is the source of all creation and the founder of all salvation.  I am a son destined for glory through His suffering on my behalf.

Faith sounding forth!

Scripture reading for September 12:  Proverbs 19-21, 1st Thessalonians 1

Key Scriptures:  1st Thessalonians 1:8-10  “For not only has the Word of the Lord sounded forth from you in Macedonia and Achaia, but your faith in God has gone forth everywhere, so that we need not say anything.  For they themselves report concerning us the kind of reception we had among you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come.”

Paul commended the Thessalonians for their faith that exhibited itself in action.  They had turned to God wholeheartedly from the idols they once served.  They preached the Word to those around them.  These works were because they believed in the return of their Lord Jesus from heaven to save them from judgment.

Proverbs 19:23  “The fear of the Lord leads to life, and whoever has it rests satisfied; he will not be visited by harm.”

Proverbs 21:21  “Whoever pursues righteousness and kindness will find life, righteousness and honor.”

Prayer:  Lord, thank You for the revelation of Jesus Christ as Savior, Lord, and coming King.  Lead me into a life of resounding faith that draws others to You.  Amen.
