The Glory of the Son of Man!
Scripture reading for July 26th: Luke 21, Psalm 148, Proverbs 24
Luke 21: 25-28 “And there will be signs in the sun and moon and stars, and on the earth distress of nations in perplexity because of the roaring of the sea and the waves, people fainting with fear and with foreboding of what is coming on the world. For the powers of the heavens will be shaken. And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to take place, straighten up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”
Jesus was preparing His followers for the coming storm of adversity that would result in His crucifixion and resurrection. The disciples asked about when the end would come and what would be the sign of the end of the age. Jesus answered with various signs in the heavens and distress on earth caused by fear of what was coming through the shaking of the powers of heaven. The final sign would be the Son of Man coming on the clouds with power and glory. These signs and events would be the time for disciples of Jesus to lift up their heads as their Redemption was close!
Psalm 148:11-13 “Kings of the earth and all peoples, princes and all rulers of the earth! Young men and maidens together, old men and children! Let them praise the Name of the Lord, for His Name Alone is exalted; His majesty is above earth and heaven.”
Prayer: Father God, thank You for giving us instructions concerning the end of the age and Your Son’s return in power and glory. We praise You and honor You and Your Son as the exalted King of heaven and coming Bridegroom for Your people. Help me to stand strong in the coming days of adversity and the signs appearing in the heavens and the fear on earth. Use me to call others with Your Good News!

Adversity and the Word of God
Scripture reading for June 16th: Proverbs 24-25, Psalm 41, 1st Thessalonians 2
Key Scriptures: 1st Thessalonians 2:13-16 “And we also thank God constantly for this, that when you received the Word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men but as what it really is, the Word of God, which is at work in you believers. For you, brothers, became imitators of the churches of God in Christ Jesus that are in Judea. For you suffered the same things from your own countrymen as they did from the Jews, who killed both the Lord Jesus and the prophets and drove us out, and displease God and oppose all mankind by hindering us from speaking to the Gentiles that they might be saved–so as always to fill up the measure of their sins. But wrath has come upon them at last!”
Paul commended the Thessalonian believers for receiving the Word of God for what it really was. God’s Word is alive and powerful, able to transform the soul from death to life eternal. It changes attitudes and rebellious behaviors and enables perseverance during suffering. In fact, suffering in believers lives comes from the unsaved world and sometimes our own relatives. They are under God’s wrath and oppose the Word of God. Jesus was betrayed by one of His own disciples and was crucified by His own people.
Psalm 41:9 “Even my close friend in whom I trusted, who ate my bread, has lifted his heel against me.”
Faith confession and prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for the Word of God. I receive it and desire its work in me for transformation and salvation. Anoint me to preach the Word of God in the face of adversity!
