Ask, believe and forgive!
Scripture reading for February 1st: Mark 11
Key Scriptures: Mark 11:20-25 “As they passed by in the morning, they saw the fig tree withered away to its roots. And Peter remembered and said to Him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree that You cursed has withered.” And Jesus answered them, “Have faith in God. Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father also Who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.”
Earlier in the week Jesus had cursed the fig tree for having no fruit. Peter saw the fig tree now withered and dead from the roots, and called it to Jesus’ attention. Jesus responded with a short but powerful exhortation concerning prayer and its power. Through faith in God, powerful declarations can be made and miracles would come to pass. We must ask and believe in faith that God hears and will answer. It will be ours by faith in God and His Word. However, unforgiveness is a possible hinderance to our own forgiveness and clear access to the Father. We must forgive–let go of offenses and stand on faith for God’s grace. This mountain is one of the hardest to see cast into the sea!
Psalm 51:10 “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.”
Faith confession and prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for Your amazing grace in forgiving me of my sins and helping me find repentance. I want to walk in mountain-moving faith and believe Your Word. Help me to maintain forgiveness towards all others and myself.
Matthew 6:14 “For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”
Be encouraged through broken “Bread”!
Scripture reading for May 20th: 2nd Samuel 11-12, 1st Chronicles 20, Psalm 51, 32, Acts 27
Key Scriptures: Acts 27:34-38 “”Therefore I urge you to take some food. For it will give you strength, for not a hair is to perish from the head of any of you.” And when he had said these things, he took bread, and giving thanks to God in the presence of all he broke it and began to eat. Then they all were encouraged and ate some food themselves. (We were in all 276 persons in the ship.) And when they had eaten enough, they lightened the ship, throwing out the wheat into the sea.”
While on his journey to Rome, the ship’s captain that Paul had warned not to proceed had gone ahead anyway. A great storm arose at sea and all on board despaired of life. Paul was encouraged in a vision that none would be lost except the ship and that he would travel to Rome to testify there. Paul shared his vision with the crew and those aboard the ship and encouraged them to eat something. He took the bread, gave thanks, broke it and ate! This was a type of Holy Communion, a remembering of Jesus’ death and indwelling life!
Psalm 51:10 “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.”
Faith confession and prayer: Lord Jesus, I trust in Your broken Body and shed Blood for cleansing, healing, forgiveness and encouragement. Open doors today of encouragement and hope, where I can break the Bread of Life through sharing Jesus Christ and His mercy for those who are fearful in the midst of a storm.
2nd Samuel 12:13 “David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the Lord.” And Nathan said to David, “The Lord also has put away your sin; you shall not die.”
Mercy and Comfort
Scripture reading for July 27th: Psalm 51-54, 2nd Corinthians 1
Key Scriptures: 2nd Corinthians 1:2-4 “Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our afflictions, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.”
Paul sends grace to the Church at Corinth from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. He recognized that God was the source of all mercy and comfort. In fact, Paul calls God “The Father of mercies” and “God of all comfort.” Mercy is God’s unmerited favor of grace and forgiveness, given to sinners who deserve wrath. Grace is the opposite of what we deserve! Having received this mercy, we can now share that with others in need.
Psalm 51:10, 13 “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.” . . .”Then I will teach transgressors Your ways, and sinners will return to You.”
Prayer: Lord, thank You for Your great mercy, beyond what I deserve. May I have grace overflowing today to share with others in need. Amen.
Repent!
Scripture reading for January 5th: Matthew 3
Key Scriptures: Matthew 3:1-2, 8 “In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the Desert of Judea and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.” . . .”Produce fruit in keeping with repentance. And do not think you can say to yourselves ‘We have Abraham as our father.'”
Overcomers in the last days must understand repentance. Repentance is more than just being sorry for you sins or sorry that you were found out. Our God knows everything! He is not a God that is far away and aloof from His people. He is near! And His kingdom is near as well! This kingdom is not visible to the human eye, but His people know the King Himself and He knows them. True repentance is a change of mind that leads to a changed life! When we repent of sexual immorality, for example, we turn from all forms of immorality and no longer live in rebellion to God’s commands and our conscience.
The human mind is always devising ways to justify our sinful actions or to find an alternative to repentance! We often speak to ourselves about our own righteousness and justify ourselves. God knows exactly where we are! If we are to overcome, we must speak honestly to ourselves, accept responsibility and change!
Observations for over-comers: True repentance brings forgiveness of sin and life! Overcomers are quick to repent and walk in victory over sin by the power of the Holy Spirit and the victory of Christ through the cross! “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” Psalm 51:10
