We Overcome by Faith!

Scripture reading for November 24th:  1st John 5

Key Scriptures for over-comers:  1st John 5:2-5  “This is how we know that we love the children of God:  by loving God and carrying out His commands.  This is love for God:  to obey His commands.  And His commands are not burdensome, for everyone born of God, over-comes the world.  This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.  Who is it that overcomes the world?  Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.”  

John’s desire was that the churches he served would be over-comers.  Love is the only pathway to overcoming the world, flesh, and the devil.  We do this by faith in God’s Word and commands.  Our faith brings loving obedience and perseverance in trials.  We obtain the victory here through faith and ultimately the victory of eternal life in God’s presence!  Jesus Christ is the author and finisher of our faith!

Observations for over-comers:  Faith motivated by God’s conquering love brings over-coming victory to those who believe in Jesus Christ as God’s Son.  “Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; love and faithfulness go before You.  Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim You, who walk in the light of Your Presence, O Lord.”  (Psalm 89:14-15)

 

The Glorious Riches of Christ!

Scripture reading for August 26th:  Ephesians 3

Key scriptures for over-comers:  Ephesians 3:17-19  “For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom His whole family in heaven and on earth derives its name.  I pray that out of His glorious riches He may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith.  And I pray that you, being rooted  and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge–that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.”  

Paul’s privilege was God’s call to preach the ‘glorious riches of Christ’ to the Gentiles. (Ephesians 3:8-10) This resulted in many Gentiles being saved but also in many persecutions for Paul and the Church from Jews who failed to embrace Jesus as Messiah.  The mystery of Jew and Gentile together as one body, the Church, often caused conflict because of spiritual strongholds.  Paul prayed for the members of Christ’s family to be strengthened with power by the Holy Spirit.  He prayed for them to be rooted and established in love and for a deep experience of Christ’s love.  This love would enable them to over-come persecution and powerfully present Christ as Lord!

Observations for over-comers:  Over-comers know Christ’s great love through the infilling of the Holy Spirit and recognition of Christ dwelling in them.  They pray for deeper revelation of Christ’s love in order to reach others in the terrible times of the last days.  “Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; love and faithfulness go before You.  Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim You, who walk in the light of Your presence, O Lord.”  (Psalm 89:14-15)
