Declaring His Glory!
Scripture reading for June 21st: Psalm 90-97
Psalms 95-97 are focused on the glory of God and worship! I enjoy these psalms because of their joy and rejoicing in God, Himself. They call all of mankind and creation into the chorus of worship that belongs to God who is worthy of praise!
Singing for joy and shouting out loud is mentioned in Psalm 95:1. Coming before Him with thanksgiving is always a good idea for God’s people, because God is the source of all their blessings! (Psalm 95:2) God’s people are urged to bow down in worship and kneel before their maker. (Psalm 95:6) Our posture, as well as our voices, instruments, and songs, indicates humility and honor. He is the great King above all gods, creator of heaven and earth!
Psalm 96 opens with an exhortation to sing a ‘new song’ to the Lord. His people are to declare His glory among the nations and peoples of the earth. All other nations and peoples have gods that are idols, but Israel alone knew the one true God who was worthy of praise! (Psalm 96:8) God was so arrayed in glory and majesty that a new song would come to those who contemplated His beauty and strength!
The Holy Spirit’s infilling often brings a new level of worship to the believer. From the Holy Spirit comes ‘spiritual songs’ given to help us worship of our awesome Lord when our own words aren’t enough! (Ephesians 5:18-20) This is a special experience available to New Testament believers!
In Psalms 96 and 97, all of creation joins in the worship chorus! The heavens rejoice and the earth is glad, the sea resounds and all the creatures in it at the glory of the Lord. The fields are jubilant and the trees sing in harmony as the Lord comes. The clouds surround Him. Fire goes before Him and lightning lights up the world! Mountains melt like wax in His presence and the earth sees Him and trembles! All the peoples see His Glory and His people rejoice and are glad. God comes to judge the earth and the peoples in righteousness and truth!
Take time today to offer heart-felt worship to the Lord! He is truly worthy of our praise! Examine your own heart for your preparations to see God as Redeemer and Judge!
Sing a new song!

Psalms 95-97 are focused on the glory of God and worship! I enjoy these psalms because of their expressions of joy and rejoicing in God Himself. They call all of mankind and nature into the chorus of worship that adores God. It is helpful to our worship to explore them and make them part of our own adoration of our Father God.
Singing for joy and shouting out loud are mentioned in Psalm 95:1. God’s people are urged to bow down in worship and kneel before their maker. (Psalm 95:6) Our posture, as well as our voices, instruments, and songs, indicates humility and honor. He is the great King above all gods, creator of heaven and earth!
Psalm 96 opens with an exhortation to sing a ‘new song’ to the Lord. All other nations and peoples had gods that were idols, but Israel alone knew the one true God who was worthy of praise! (Psalm 96:8) God was so arrayed in glory and majesty that a new song would come to those who contemplated His beauty and strength! As they beheld the Lord in worship, new songs of joy and praise flow out of their hearts and burst from their lips! The old songs were not adequate to express their adoration!

From the Spirit comes a new song bringing praise to the King! (Ephesians 5:18-20) At times in different corporate worship settings, I have experienced the Spirit bringing forth a ‘new song’ from the congregation that took us into the heavenly realm and put us in harmony with those worshiping around the throne!

Come, Let Us Bow Down and Worship!
Scripture reading for June 22nd: Psalms 90-97
“Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; for He is our God and we are the people of His pasture, the flock under His care.” (Psalm 95:6-7)
Worship of God is not passive. The psalms call for all manner of activity and expression of our adoration and thankfulness to the God who formed the heavens and the earth. In this psalm, singing for joy, shouting aloud, extolling Him with music, bowing down, an kneeling are all urged as proper expressions for God’s people as they come before their King in worship. God is viewed as a great Shepherd and His people are the flock that He cares for. The people know their God and respond to His voice.
Jesus stated plainly that He was the “good Shepherd” and that His sheep know Him and He knows His sheep. (John 10:11, 14) Jesus used this analogy to help people understand who He was and their relationship to Him. He was tying Himself to God the Father through their Old Testament Scriptures. He also stated that His sheep would know His voice and the voice of a stranger they would not follow. (John 10:4-5) The shepherd leads the sheep and calls them to follow Him. The sheep bond to the one shepherd that they know and respond to him.
“Today if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as you did at Meribah, as you did that day at Massah in the desert, where your fathers tested and tried me, though they had seen what I did.” (Psalm 95:8-9)
This psalm encourages obedience to the voice of the Shepherd and warns of the consequences of disobedience. The incident in Exodus 17:1-7 when the Israelites quarreled with Moses and doubted God was with them in the desert is cited as a warning. These Israelites had seen all the miracles God had done for them to bring them out of Egypt, but refused to continue in faith when their water supply grew short! God became angry with that generation, and they did not enter into God’s rest because of their unbelief! (Psalms 95:11)
Jesus Christ, our Good Shepherd calls out today to all who will listen to His voice: “Come to me, all who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28) Listen today and enter in with active worship!
Sing a new song to the Lord!

Psalms 95-97 are focused on the glory of God and on worship with very little else! I enjoy these psalms because of their joy and rejoicing in God, Himself. They seem to call all of mankind and nature as well into the chorus of worship that belongs to God who is worthy of all praise! There are many avenues of praise mentioned in these psalms and it is helpful to our worship to explore them and put them into practice.

Coming before Him with thanksgiving is always a good idea for God’s people, because they have so much to be thankful for and God is the source of all their blessings! (Psalm 95:2) God’s people are urged to bow down in worship and kneel before their maker. (Psalm 95:6) We must decrease and He must increase. Our posture, as well as our voices, instruments, and songs, indicates humility and honor. He is the great King above all gods, creator of heaven and earth, and man as well!
Psalm 96 opens with an exhortation to sing a ‘new song’ to the Lord. It might be a song of praise and thanksgiving, or a song of proclamation concerning His salvation and mighty works. His people are to declare His glory among the nations and peoples of the earth. All other nations and peoples have gods that are idols, but Israel alone knew the one true God who was worthy of praise! (Psalm 96:8) God was so arrayed in glory and majesty that a new song would come to those who contemplated His beauty and strength! Songs have a way of coming out of the heart of man and expressing the deepest worship and longing of the soul.

From the Spirit comes a new song bringing praise to the King!
