Scripture reading for December 30: Revelation 22
“The Spirit and the Bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the Water of Life without price. I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophesy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book, and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of Life and in the holy city, which are described in this book. He who testifies of these things says, “Surely I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus! The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all. Amen.” Revelation 22:17-21
We wrap up this trek through the New Testament with the final words of Jesus Christ: “Surely I am coming soon.” This is to be the mindset and world view of every born-again child of God. We must never forget that we belong to Jesus Christ as members of His bridal company. It is by grace that we have received the invitation to the wedding supper of the Lamb. It is by grace through faith that we wait and look forward to Christ’s return for us. It is by grace and faith that we can daily drink of the Water of Life without charge.
The final prayer of the Bride, Christ’s Church, empowered by the Holy Spirit is “Come!” God the Father’s gift of the Holy Spirit to indwell us while on our trek to Father’s House empowers us. God’s Word transforms us into a glorious Bride, taken from Christ’s spear-pierced side and dressed in the white linen of Christ’s righteousness and good deeds. As believers, we are reminded that every Word of God’s Word is truth. We cannot add to or take away from what God has decreed! We can only say “Amen!” “Come Lord Jesus!” Those who try to change what God has written will suffer great eternal loss. This is the vision and warning of Jesus Christ, King of kings and Lord of Lords!
Prayer: Father God, we say “Amen!” to all of Your eternal Word and to Jesus Christ, the Word made flesh! Help me to hear and live out Your Word today in humble submission and worship and holy expectation of Your Son’s return. I pray with Christ’s Bride: “Come!” Amen! Come Lord Jesus!

Revelation 22:17-19: The Spirit and the Bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” and let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of Life without price. I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophesy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book, and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of Life and in the Holy City, which are described in this book.”
The final words of this prophecy received by John and the final warning of Peter before his martyrdom are our closing thoughts on this past year. John records the final invitation and promise of Jesus Christ: “Surely I am coming soon.” In response to this short and plain announcement, the Spirit, indwelling every believer echoes the call to “Come.” Those filled with the Spirit, having made themselves ready for the Day of Christ, here are called the “Bride.” The Bride is calling out in agreement with Jesus Christ and the Spirit, “Come.” Peter’s final warning before he is crucified upside down, is for believers to remember the promises of Jesus Christ about His return and the judgment of the earth and those refusing grace. God will destroy the earth and heavens by fire in that final judgment. But God’s people, the “Bride”, will be actively awaiting the new heavens and new earth and the righteousness of King Jesus! Amen! Come!
2 Peter 3:11-13 “Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness, waiting for and hastening the coming of the Day of God because of which the heavens will be set on fire and dissolved, and the heavenly bodies will melt as they burn! But according to His promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.”
Revelation 22:20-21 “He Who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus! The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all. Amen.”
Prayer: Father God, thank You for Lord Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit! Thank You for Your unchanging Truth given to us through Your eternal Word and Son Who was and is the Word made flesh. Help me to patiently wait, do the works You have prepared for me, and be ready for Your promised return. Fill me with the Holy Spirit and use me to reach others with the Good News of Christ’s coming! “Come.”

As we come to the end of this year’s trek through the Bible chronologically, I want to thank the Lord Jesus for the privilege of studying and sharing His amazing Word. Thank you, each one, for joining me as you could. This final devotion records the final prayer of Christ’s Bride, the Church. Empowered by the Holy Spirit, the Bride simply says “Come.” It is an invitation to the thirsty. It is to “whosoever” will respond, with no prejudice towards anyone and no payment required. It is accompanied by a final warning concerning additions or subtractions from God’s Word. Eternal loss is promised to those who choose to do that. Jesus personally states that He is surely coming soon! Grace alone can prepare us. Amen! Come Lord Jesus!
Faith confession and prayer: I pray today, and daily, along with Your Bride, “Come.” I believe You and Your eternal Word, forever settled in the heavens and on earth. Help me to live by grace and faith each day until Your soon and sudden return. Amen! Praise the Lord Jesus Christ!

We end this year’s devotions with the last words of John’s revelation and the last words of Jesus Christ to His Church, the Bride. The Bride, through the Holy Spirit is praying to the Lord Jesus saying, “Come!” I believe this simple prayer has two aspects. The Bride is asking God to bring in the thirsty and those still to be saved. The Bride is asking Jesus to come for them. The Lord Jesus answers: “Surely I am coming soon.” The Brides answer is “Amen.” It all occurs by grace through faith!
Faith confession: Lord Jesus, I join the Bride in praying “Come.” May the lost and thirsty come to You and find refreshing in the river of life and healing food in the tree of life flowing from Your glorious throne! “Amen.” Hallelujah forever and ever!
