Thankful for no surprises!
Scripture reading for November 7th: John 13-16
Key Scriptures: John 13:18-21 “I am not referring to all of you; I know those I have chosen. But this is to fulfill the scripture: ‘He who shares My bread has lifted up his heel against Me.” “I am telling you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe that I am He. I tell you the truth whoever accepts anyone I send accepts Me; and whoever accepts Me accepts the One who sent me. After He had said this, Jesus was troubled in spirit and testified, “I tell you the truth, one of you is going to betray Me.”
Jesus revealed to the disciples at the Last Supper the truth that one of their own number would betray Him. It would be a fulfillment of Scripture and also noted that Jesus had warned them ahead of time so that they would believe more fully on Him. We can be thankful for a God that is not surprised or caught off guard. Jesus knows everything: past, present, and future!
Thankful for no surprises: “Even my close friend, whom I trusted, He who shared my bread, has lifted up his heel against me. But You, O Lord, have mercy on me; raise me up, that I may repay them.” (Psalm 41:9-10)
