Scripture reading for March 1st: Joshua 5-8
Key Scriptures: Joshua 6:20-22 “When the trumpets sounded, the people shouted, and at the sound of the trumpet, when the people gave a loud shout, the wall collapsed; so every man charged straight in, and the took the city. They devoted the city to the Lord and destroyed with the sword every living thing in it–men and women, young and old, cattle, sheep and donkeys. Joshua said to the two men who had spied out the land, “Go into the prostitutes house and bring her out and all who belong to her, . . .”
The Israelites faced the walled city of Jericho and were given instructions to take the city and devote all in it to the Lord. They obeyed God by marching and then shouting as trumpets were blown. The thick walls collapsed and victory was theirs. They spared a prostitute and her family who had helped them!
Rejoicing in God’s Power: God shows both judgment to the wicked amazing mercy to sinners who trusted Him by faith! “By faith, the walls of Jericho fell after the people had marched around them for seven days. By faith the prostitute Rahab, because she welcomed the spies, was not killed with those who were disobedient.” (Hebrews 11:30-31)
