The Lord of Justice and Restoration!

Scripture reading for March 7th:  Deuteronomy 14-17, Luke 4

Key Scriptures:   Luke 4:17-19  “And the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to Him.  He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to proclaim good news to the poor.  He has sent Me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

Jesus began His ministry in His hometown of Nazareth.  As a rabbi, He was given the opportunity to read the Scriptures at the local synagogue.  He opened the scroll of Isaiah to quote 61:1-2(a).  After reading, Jesus proclaimed that that Scripture had been fulfilled in their hearing.  At first, the crowd marveled, but soon they became full of wrath and sought to do Him harm.  Good news is often difficult to received by religious people.

Deuteronomy 16:18, 20.  “”You shall appoint judges and officers in all your towns that the Lord your God is giving you, according to your tribes, and they shall judge the people with righteous judgment.  . . . Justice, and only justice, you shall follow, that you may live and inherit the land that the Lord your God is giving you.””

Prayer:  Lord Jesus, thank You for Your clear mission and vision to bring justice and freedom to the poor, the oppressed, and helpless.  May Your Spirit be upon me today to follow Your example.  Amen.
