Equity for all through Father and Son

Scripture reading for October 31st: John 12, Psalm 67, Proverbs 31

John 12: 44-50 “And Jesus cried out and said, “Whoever believes in Me, believes not in Me but in Him Who sent Me. And whoever sees Me sees Him Who sent Me. I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in Me may not remain in darkness. If anyone hears My Words and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world. The one who rejects me and does not receive My Words has a judge; the Word that I have spoken will judge him on the last day. For I have not spoken on My own authority, but the Father Who sent Me has Himself given Me a commandment–what to say and what to speak. And I know that His commandment is eternal life. What I say, therefore, I say as the Father has told Me.””

Jesus Christ came to reveal the Father to His lost children, Jew and Gentile. All mankind lived in darkness and because of sin they could not see the glory of God their Father in heaven. Jesus came down specifically to bring light to that darkness. He was the ‘Light of the World’ and here declares that anyone who believes in Him, also believes in the Father Who sent Him. He proclaimed only the Words of His Father in Heaven, that man might know their Father’s love and desire for their salvation and restoration. Jesus was not on earth as a judge, but as Light. His Words were eternal life to those who would believe, but would also judge those who refused to come to the Light and see. Real ‘equity’ is offered by our Father to all nations, tongues, and tribes through His Son and His Bride, the Church who shares this Good News! All people are under the same offer of mercy and will be judged for failure to respond.

Psalm 67:4-5 “Let the nations be glad and sing for joy, for You judge the peoples with equity and guide the nations upon earth. (Selah) Let the peoples praise You, O God; let all the peoples praise You!”

Prayer: Father God, thank You that You want all nations to know You through Your Son Jesus Christ. I gladly repent and receive this Good News. You are wise, kind, merciful, and loving as revealed by Jesus Christ. Through Your Spirit, cloth me with strength and dignity and use me to share Your Wisdom and kindness to all nations that they might worship You. Let all receive and none be judged by Your Word.

Proverbs 31:25-26 “Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.”

The Counsel of God Stands!

Scripture reading for October 12th:  Isaiah 46-49, Hebrews 1

Key Scriptures:  Hebrews 1:1-3 “Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son, Whom He appointed the heir of all things, through Whom also He created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of His nature, and He upholds the universe by the word of His power.  After making purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, . . .”

The writer of Hebrews loves to tie Old and New Testaments together.  In the past, God spoke by the prophets concerning things to come.  Now, God speaks to us by His Son.  The Son is the exact representation of God. The Son is the Creator and Upholder of the universe!  The Son made a sacrifice of His blood to purify us from sin.  The Son is now seated at God’s right hand!  We must listen to the Son!  His counsel will stand!

Isaiah 46:9-10 ” . . .remember the former things of old, for I am God, and there is no other; I am God and there is none like Me, declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all My purpose.'”

Prayer:  Lord, thank You for speaking to Your people through the prophets of old concerning things coming.  Thank You for speaking today through Your Son!  Help me listen and obey.  Amen.

Christ Jesus, God’s final word!

Scripture reading for October 30th: Hebrews 1:1-14

We serve a living God!  This great God and Father of us all is a God who speaks to His people.  The Bible is the story of God’s speaking to man to reveal His plan of redemption through His Son, Jesus Christ.  The unnamed writer of Hebrews wrote to Jewish Christians who were going through intense persecution.  Some of them were tempted to return to their past religion.   The writer of Hebrews encourages them and us today to listen to God’s final Word!

“In  the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, and through whom He made the universe.  The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His being, sustaining all things by His powerful word.  After He had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.” (Hebrews 1:1-3)

God had spoken to His people many times in the past.  The Holy Scriptures contained the records of God’s communication with Moses, Noah, Abraham and the  many prophets.  But God’s final word came in the person of His Son, Jesus Christ.  God appointed Jesus as heir of all things, having made the universe and all it contained through His powerful word.   Jesus Christ now upholds all things by His word and is the exact representation of God the Father.  It is through Jesus Christ that we have purification of our sins.  Jesus is now seated at God’s right hand in Heaven and is our mediator with God on our behalf.

The Jews understood and reverenced angels.  Hebrews declared that Jesus was superior to angels in many ways.  (Hebrews 1:4-14)  His name was above all other names.  Jesus was declared the Son of God and  His Father declared that all angels should worship Him.  The Father declared His Son was  ‘God’ and gave Him a throne and kingdom lasting forever.  His Son would be eternal and would outlast the creation He made.  The angels were only ministering spirits, sent to serve the heirs of salvation.

Have you listened to God’s final Word from heaven?  Do you want to know what God is like?   Listen to Jesus and observe His life and teaching!  He is worthy of our worship!
