Persecution part of the package!

Scripture reading for May 1st:  1st Samuel 20, 1st Chronicles 4, Psalm 56, 57, 142, Acts 14

Key Scriptures:  Acts 14:19-22 “But Jews came from Antioch and Iconium, and having persuaded the crowds, they stoned Paul and dragged him out of the city, supposing that he was dead.  But when the disciples gathered about him, he rose up and entered the city, and on the next day he went on with Barnabas to Derbe.  When they had preached the Gospel to that city and had made many disciples, they returned to Lystra and to Iconium and to Antioch, strengthening the souls of the disciples, encouraging them to continue in the faith, and saying that through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God”

Paul was stoned for preaching the Gospel at Lystra and left for dead.  The other disciples gathered around him and prayed and he arose and entered the city.  The crowd that stoned him had been stirred up by Jews from Antioch, their home mission base.  This did not stop them from their mission!  They continued to preach in Lystra and made many disciples there and even went back to Iconium and Antioch, strengthening the church members.  They understood that persecution and tribulation was a part of kingdom opposition.

Psalm  57:2-3 “I cry out to God Most High, to God Who fulfills His purpose for me.  He will send from heaven and save me; He will put to shame him who tramples on me.”

Faith confession and prayer:  Lord Jesus, thank You for the privilege of preaching the Gospel and for persecution for the kingdom’s sake.  Help me to boldly trust You each day for strength and help.

1st Samuel 20:3 “. . . But truly, as the Lord lives and as your soul lives, there is but a step between me and death.”

Avoiding temptation through prayer and submission!

Scripture reading for April 9th:  Judges 7-8, Luke 22

Key Scriptures:  Luke 22:40-45 “And when He come to the place, He said to them, “Pray that you may not enter into temptation.”  And He withdrew from them about a stone’s throw, and knelt down and prayed, saying, “Father, if Your are willing, remove this cup from Me.  Nevertheless, not My will, but Yours, be done.”  And there appeared to Him an angel from heaven, strengthening Him.  And being in an agony, He prayed more earnestly; and His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.  And when He rose from prayer, He came to the disciples and found them sleeping for sorrow, . . “

Jesus went to His designated place of prayer and asked His disciples to watch and pray with Him to avoid temptation.  He withdrew by Himself and was praying with great agony and intensity, asking His Father to remove the cup of coming suffering, if it were possible.  But Jesus submitted completely to the Father’s will.  An angel from heaven appeared and strengthened Him.  He prayed again, more passionately than ever, even to the point that drops of His blood mingled with sweat coming from His brow.  When He returned, He found sleeping disciples!

Faith confession and prayer:  Lord, You alone can deliver me from evil and temptation.  Thank You for the Holy Spirit and the strength You give.  Help me to be watchful and in prayer for me and my family as the terrible times of trouble come in these last days.  Keep me from the snares of this world.

Judges 8:27 “And Gideon made an ephod of it (gold spoil), and put it in his city, in Ophrah.  And all Israel whored after it there, and it became a snare to Gideon and to his family.”

The Power of His Presence!

Scripture reading for August 27th:  Ephesians 3, Psalm 21, Proverbs 17

Key Scriptures: Ephesians 3:14-19 “For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of His glory He may grant you to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith–that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.”

Paul prayed for God’s people on his knees.  He humbly asked the God of all glory to strengthen the believers with power to live fully for God by the Holy Spirit who indwelled and infilled them.  The Holy Spirit would enable them to experience Christ indwelling them by faith in His Word and to personally experience the love of Christ.  This would allow them to be filled with all of God’s fullness!  What an amazing prayer recorded for us with Christ’s indwelling Spirit!

Faith Confession:  Thank You Jesus for giving me power through the Holy Spirit to know that Christ lives in me and to know His amazing love and the fullness of His indwelling presence.  I am blessed forever and ever!

Psalm 21:6 “For You make him most blessed forever; You make him glad with the joy of Your presence.”
