Giants fall!

Scripture reading for April 29th: 1st Samuel 17, 1st Chronicles 2, Acts 12

Key Scriptures: Acts 12:20-24 “Now Herod was angry with the people of Tyre and Sidon, and they came to him with one accord, and having persuaded Blastus, the king’s chamberlain, they asked for peace, because their country depended on the king’s country for food.  On an appointed day Herod put on his royal robes, took his seat upon the throne, and delivered an oration to them.  And the people were shouting, “The voice of a god, and not of a man!”  Immediately an angel of the Lord struck him down, because he did not give God the glory, and he was eaten by worms and breathed his last.  But the Word of God increased and multiplied.”

King Herod was an arrogant political power-broker for the Roman government.  He liked being in control and lording his power over the people.  As a group of people from Tyre and Sidon came before him to ask for peace and food, Herod gave a speech.  The people began to worship him to get their needs met.  Herod was soaking it up when suddenly the angel of the Lord struck him down and he was eaten by worms and died.  Failure to give God glory is a deadly sin.

Faith Confession and prayer:  Lord, You alone are God and deserve all worship and glory.  All in authority derive their power from Your throne.  Help me to always walk under Your authority and give You all glory.

1st Samuel 17:48-49 “When the Philistine (Goliath) arose and came and drew near to meet David, David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet the Philistine.  And David put his hand in his bag and took out a stone and slung it and struck the  Philistine on his forehead.  The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the ground.”
