Tag: thrones of judgment
Scripture reading for December 28th: Job 34-36, Revelation 20
Key Scriptures: Revelation 20:4-6 “Then I saw thrones, and seated on them were those to whom the authority to judge was committed. Also I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for the testimony of Jesus and for the Word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended. This is the first resurrection. Blessed and holy is the one who shares in the first resurrection! Over such the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and they will reign with Him for a thousand years.”
John saw thrones set up for those given authority to judge. He also saw the souls of the martyrs who had been beheaded because of their testimony of Jesus Christ and their stand on the Word of God. These souls came to life in a resurrection and reigned with Christ Jesus for a thousand year period. This was the “first resurrection” and those who were part of this were declared “blessed and holy”. The second death–being judged for sin and cast into the eternal lake of fire–would have no power over these resurrected ones. They had not worshiped the beast or received his mark, but had remained true to the Lord in mind and body.
Faith confession and prayer: Lord Jesus, I await the fullness of the first resurrection–a glorified body and reigning with You for the thousand years and then forever. Give me strength to declare Your invitation to all to join in the first resurrection. Watch over my steps and guide me by the light of Your Word.
Job 34:21-23 “For His eyes are on the ways of a man, and He sees all his steps. There is no gloom or deep darkness where evildoers may hide themselves. For God has no need to consider a man further, that he should go before God in judgment.”
Scripture reading for August 11th: Hosea 11-13, Matthew 19
Key Scriptures: Matthew 19:27-30 “Then Peter said in reply, “See, we have left everything and followed You. What then will we have? Jesus said to them, “Truly, I say to you, in the new world, when the Son of Man will sit on His glorious throne, you who have followed Me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or lands, for My Name’s sake, will receive a hundredfold and will inherit eternal life. But many who are first will be last, and the last first.”
The rich young man who had come to Jesus inquiring about eternal life, left dejectedly after he heard Jesus’ answer. Jesus told His disciples how hard it was for rich people to enter the kingdom of heaven, and they asked Him about their own sacrifice to follow Him. Jesus promised them a throne of judgment in the new world and eternal life. Those in this life who are prominent because of wealth will be last, and those who renounce riches in this life and follow Jesus will be blessed with eternal reward.
Faith confession and prayer: Lord, I have chosen to follow You and leave this world and its riches for a greater riches in knowing You. Help me to keep walking with You, waiting on You, and calling on You. I want to hold fast to Your love and justice and never turn back.
Hosea 12:6 “So you, by the help of your God, return, hold fast to love and justice, and wait continually for your God.”
