Faith’s pursuit!
Scripture reading for January 6th: Mark 5, Psalm 5, Proverbs 5
Mark 5: 25-30 “And there was a woman who had had a discharge of blood for twelve years, and who had suffered much under many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was no better but rather grew worse. She had heard the reports about Jesus and came up behind him in the crowd and touched His garment. For she said, “If I touch even His garments, I will be made well.” And immediately the flow of blood dried up and she felt in her body that she was healed of her disease. And Jesus, perceiving in Himself that power had gone out from Him, immediately turned in the crowd and said, “Who touched My garments?”
Mark recounted this story of a woman that had pressed in to touch Jesus’ garments. She had had a flow of blood for twelve years. She had spent all she had on doctoring, but was only worse. She was considered unclean because of her illness. She heard about Jesus and decided to pursue Him. Her faith was rewarded and she had the joy of healing, restoration, and immediate results! What a blessing and joy faith produces! God smiles and Jesus allows His power to flow out in response to faith!
Psalm 5:11-12 “But let all who take refuge in You rejoice; let them ever sing for joy, and spread Your protection over them, that those who love Your Name may exult in You. For You bless the righteous, O Lord; You cover him with favor as with a shield.”
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for giving Your church this story of faith’s pursuit. Help me to always pursue You with a pure heart for the needs that I have, realizing that in You is everything I need in life. As You met this woman’s need immediately, allow Your power through the Holy Spirit to flow through me and Your people to bring grace to those You are drawing to follow You. Praise the Lord! Amen!
Proverbs 5:21 “For a man’s ways are before the eyes of the Lord, and He ponders all his paths.”
Pressing in!
Scripture reading for January 7th: Genesis 12-15, Psalm 148, Mark 5
Mark 5:24-29 “And a great crowd followed Him and thronged about Him. And there was a woman who had had a discharge of blood for twelve years, and who had suffered much under many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was no better but rather grew worse. She had heard the reports about Jesus and came up behind Him in the crowd and touched His garment. For she said, “If I touch even His garments, I will be made well.” And immediately the flow of blood dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of her disease.”
When a person has suffered under a disease or physical infirmity for many years, it is often hard to believe that things can change. In the natural world, things always seem to get worse and conditions deteriorate. This woman in Mark’s Gospel had experienced twelve years of suffering. She had tried all the recommended remedies and spent her money but was worse off than before. But word of Jesus’ healing signs had reached her ears. Faith arose in her heart and she spoke a ‘faith word’ to her own spirit: “If I touch even His garments, I will be made well.” She heard that Jesus was in her area and made haste to do what she believed would bring healing to her suffering body. Pressing in, one touch of Jesus’ robe brought an end to her blood flow and a new sense of health and well-being. If you have a long-term problem like this dear woman, why not take this Word today and reach out in faith to Jesus believing.
Genesis 15:1, 6 “After these things the Word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: “Fear not, Abram, I am your shield; and your reward shall be very great.” . . .”And he believed the Lord, and He counted it to him as righteousness.”
Prayer: Father God, I want to hear Your Word in each minute and hour of my day that I might walk in faith and press in to lay hold of all that You have for me. Forgive me when I speak out of fear and unbelief. I want to serve You and others by living a life of faith. I invite the Holy Spirit to give me healthy, ‘Word of God’ inspired self-talk. Bring to my remembrance Your promises and use me to facilitate healing and forgiveness through Your unchanging Word.
Psalm 148:11-13 “Kings of the earth and all peoples, princes and all rulers of the earth! Young men and maidens together, old men and children! Let them praise the Name of the Lord, for His Name alone is exalted; His majesty is above earth and heaven.”
Faith comes from the heart!
Scripture reading for January 11th: Genesis 29-31, Matthew 9
Key Scriptures: Matthew 9:20-22 “And Jesus rose and followed him, with His disciples. And behold, a woman who had suffered from a discharge of blood for twelve years came up behind Him and touched the fringe of His garment, for she said to herself, “If I only touch His garment, I will be made well.” Jesus turned and seeing her He said, “Take heart, daughter; your faith has made you well.” And instantly the woman was made well.”
Jesus was responding to a ruler whose child had died and had asked Jesus to come to his house. On the way, a woman reached out and touched Jesus’ robe. Jesus felt the touch and responded to her with an encouraging declaration. “Your faith has made you well.” Faith starts in the heart and comes from hearing God’s Word. Faith moves the possessor to believe, act and receive.
Genesis 31:11-13 “Then the angel of God said to me in the dream, ‘Jacob,’ and I said, ‘Here I am!’ And he said, ‘Lift up you eyes and see, all the goats that mate with the flock are striped, spotted, and mottled, for I have seen all that Laban is doing to you. I am the God of Bethel, where you anointed a pillar and made a vow to Me.”
Prayer: Lord Jesus, I believe in You and Your Word. Teach me to walk in faith and keep my heart trusting in You. May I touch You each day as I pray for my needs and others who need You! In Jesus’ Name! Amen!
