Winning as many as possible!

Scripture reading for July 18th:  1st Corinthians 9

Key Scriptures for over-comers:  1st Corinthians 9:19, 22-23  “Though I am free and belong to no man, I make myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible.” . . .  “To the weak I became weak, to win the weak.  I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some.  I do all things for the sake of the gospel, that I might share in its blessings.”

Paul’s heart was to win the lost–both Jew and Gentile!  He was trained by the Lord to be a fisher of men and sought to be wise in reaching each person with the gospel of Jesus Christ.  He tried to relate to each person by understanding their culture and seeking God’s wisdom in how to reach them.  His highest desire was to please the Lord and fulfill the “Great Commission”.  He knew that the Lord would reward him when He returned!

Observations for over-comers:  Over-comers keep their focus on fulfilling the instructions from Jesus to win souls and make disciples looking for Jesus as their reward.  “Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake:  some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt.  Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever.” (Daniel 12:2-3)

Therefore, Go!

Scripture reading for February 9th:  Matthew 28

Key Scriptures:  Matthew 28:18-20  “Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me.  Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.  And surely I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Jesus gave simple and clear instructions to those who had trusted in Him.  He declared that all authority had been given to Him, in heaven and on earth!  Because of this authority and the Father’s heart of love behind it, His followers were sent into all the world to every people group in every land.  Their mission was to make disciples, not just get converts!  They were to baptize them and teach them obedience to Jesus’ commands.  It wasn’t difficult or hard to understand or especially hard to do.  It did require faith and an ongoing personal relationship with Jesus during the process.  Jesus promised His presence with them at all times.

Observations for over-comers:  Humble disciples of Jesus recognize His authority and heart to reach the lost of all nations and make disciples.  Go!   “The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he who wins souls is wise.”  (Proverbs 11:30)
