The fragrance of the knowledge of Jesus
Scripture reading for August 24th: 2nd Corinthians 2, Psalm 19, Proverbs 14
2nd Corinthians 2:14-17 “But thanks be to God, Who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of Him everywhere. For we are the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing, to one a fragrance from death to death, to the other a fragrance from life to life. Who is sufficient for these things? For we are not, like so many, peddlers of God’s Word, but as men of sincerity, as commissioned by God, in the sight of God we speak in Christ.”
Paul told the believers that Christ would always lead them in triumphal procession. Jesus Christ, our King, would display His Bride as beautiful and reflecting the joy of His love and grace like a pleasant perfume. Those who were humble and repentant would see them and receive their fragrance as the perfume of Life. Those hard-hearted and sin-centered would find their aroma one of death! Their old life would be exposed and conviction would fall. But God sends out His people and makes them triumphant and equips them for their task. Through them, the knowledge of Christ is spread like a beautiful aroma in every place they go or reside!
Psalm 19:14 “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.”
Prayer: Father God, even as the Psalmist prayed: “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord!” You are my Rock and Redeemer, my King and Lord. As Your Bride, may my life always bear the fragrance of the knowledge of Jesus Christ in every place to each person. Thank You for commissioning and equipping me for this task through the Holy Spirit’s indwelling.
Proverbs 14:33-34 “Wisdom rests in the heart of a man of understanding, but it makes itself known even in the midst of fools. Righteousness exalts a notion, but sin is a reproach to any people.”
