The fragrance of the knowledge of Jesus

Scripture reading for August 24th: 2nd Corinthians 2, Psalm 19, Proverbs 14

2nd Corinthians 2:14-17 “But thanks be to God, Who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of Him everywhere. For we are the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing, to one a fragrance from death to death, to the other a fragrance from life to life. Who is sufficient for these things? For we are not, like so many, peddlers of God’s Word, but as men of sincerity, as commissioned by God, in the sight of God we speak in Christ.”

Paul told the believers that Christ would always lead them in triumphal procession. Jesus Christ, our King, would display His Bride as beautiful and reflecting the joy of His love and grace like a pleasant perfume. Those who were humble and repentant would see them and receive their fragrance as the perfume of Life. Those hard-hearted and sin-centered would find their aroma one of death! Their old life would be exposed and conviction would fall. But God sends out His people and makes them triumphant and equips them for their task. Through them, the knowledge of Christ is spread like a beautiful aroma in every place they go or reside!

Psalm 19:14 “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.”

Prayer: Father God, even as the Psalmist prayed: “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord!” You are my Rock and Redeemer, my King and Lord. As Your Bride, may my life always bear the fragrance of the knowledge of Jesus Christ in every place to each person. Thank You for commissioning and equipping me for this task through the Holy Spirit’s indwelling.

Proverbs 14:33-34 “Wisdom rests in the heart of a man of understanding, but it makes itself known even in the midst of fools. Righteousness exalts a notion, but sin is a reproach to any people.”

God’s Amazing Plans!

Scripture reading for August 23rd:  Ephesians 1, Psalm 19, Proverbs 15

Key Scriptures:  Ephesians 1:5-10  “In love He predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of His will, to the praise of His glorious grace, with which He has blessed us in the Beloved.  In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace, which He lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight making known to us the mystery of His will, according to His purpose, which He set forth in Christ as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in Him, things in heaven and on earth.”

God’s plans are amazing!  The fact that He includes us in His plans is even more amazing!  He lavishes on us His wisdom and purposes through the revelation of His Son, Jesus Christ.  He is our redemption and through His shed blood we have forgiveness of sins freely given to all who repent.  In Christ we are adopted as sons in God’s family and united with Him by His grace!  The fullness of time will reveal the unfolding of these plans and nothing can stop them.

Faith confession:  Thank You Lord for revealing Your amazing plans to me through Jesus Christ.  In Him I have forgiveness of my sins and adoption into God’s family.  I eagerly await the fullness of time!

Psalm 19:14 “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.”

Beware of hypocrisy!

Scripture reading for January 21st:  Matthew 15

Key verses:  Matthew 15:7-9  “You hypocrites!”  Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you:  “These people honor Me with their lips, but their hearts are far from Me.  They worship Me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men.”

Hypocrisy is very simply ‘play-acting’; putting on a show to please an audience.  The Pharisees and Sadducees of Jesus day had devised many man-made rules to give them control over the people and make people think that they were super-spiritual.  The fatal flaw in their thinking was the fact that nothing is hidden from God!  (Hebrews 4:13)  Jesus knew what was in men’s hearts and correctly took the prophesy of Isaiah to reveal their false worship and failure to worship God in spirit and truth!

Hypocrisy is rampant in the time we live.  Everyone tries to play to the audience of their peers and even in church try to appear as ‘super-spiritual’!  God wants our hearts to be pure towards Him and for each person to come humbly before Him.  He wants our true worship, not just rituals taught by men.  He doesn’t want us putting on a show or saying nice words or singing great love songs to Him when our hearts are full of adultery, lying, idolatry and sin!  (Matthew 15:18-19)  Be quick to repent of any hypocrisy in your life!

Observation for over-comers:  Stay humble and honest in your relationship with God and Christ.  Ask God to search you and reveal areas in need of repentance.  “May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in Your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.”  (Psalm 19:14)
