Scripture reading for April 20th: 1st Samuel 1-2, Psalm 120, Acts 5
Key Scriptures: Acts 5:28-32 “”We strictly charged you not to teach in this Name, yet here you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and you intend to bring this Man’s blood upon us.” But Peter and the apostles answered, “We must obey God rather than men. The God of our fathers raised Jesus, Whom you killed by hanging Him on a tree. God exalted Him at His right hand as Leader and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins. And we are witnesses to these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, Whom God has given to those who obey Him.””
The Pharisees charged the apostles not to teach in the Name of Jesus ever again. The apostles explained that they must obey God first because He had charged them to take the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all men. Peter respectfully explained how the religious authorities and the people of Israel had crucified Jesus and how God raised Him from the dead. God also exalted Jesus the highest place of honor, His Right Hand! Jesus alone can grant forgiveness of sins. The apostles were witnesses as the Holy Spirit spoke through them.
Faith Confession and prayer: Lord, thank You for the Name of Jesus and the instructions to preach the Gospel to all people everywhere. Help me to obey You today through the Holy Spirit who lives in me.
1st Samuel 2:2 “”There is none holy like the Lord; for there is none besides You; there is no Rock like our God.”
Psalm 120:1 “In my distress I called to the Lord, and He answered me.”
