Connected to God’s Health Plan

Scripture reading for August 25: Psalm 1:1-4 “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on His law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away.”

3 John 2 “Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul.”

Psalms is the worship song book of the Bible. This first chapter of Psalms begins the worship extoling the blessedness of the person who delights in God and His law and Word. This person does not walk in the counsel of wicked and godless people. They choose not to become a scoffer at God’s Word or of those who choose to listen and obey. The way of the world is to mock God’s Word and to ridicule those believing and obeying. But the blessed man delights in God and His laws and places by choice his mind and thoughts on what God has said. He begins his day that way and ends it in the same manner. Even in the night seasons, he awakes to think on God and His goodness and laws. This choice of mindset brings fruitfulness. The psalmist describes this person as a tree planted by a stream of water that always yielded fruit. Even in a drought, it stayed healthy and strong because roots were tapped into the flowing stream.

The worship song goes on to state that the path of the wicked was not like the blessedness enjoyed by the seeker of God. The wicked were likened to chaff driven by the wind. It was good for nothing and could reproduce nothing. It is God’s desire for us to have the blessed life and in His mercy He has shown us the way by faith in His Son and His Word! Thank You Lord for the stream of Your blessings to the faithful!

Father God, keep me focused and delighted in Your Son and Your amazing Word. All fruitfulness comes from taping into the stream of Your love and grace. Amen.

The mind of Christ!

Scripture reading for July 6th:  Job 41-42, Psalm 1, 1st Corinthians 2

Key Scriptures: 1st Corinthians 2:14-16  “The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.  The spiritual person judges all things, but is himself to be judged by no one.  “For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct Him?”  But we have the mind of Christ.”

Spiritual things must be revealed to people by the Holy Spirit.  Natural man, unredeemed and not born again, finds it impossible to understand spiritual truth.  But those who are born-again have the “mind of Christ”.  This is an amazing gift from the Father.

Psalm 1:1-2  “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on His law he meditates day and night.”

Prayer:  Lord, thank You for this amazing gift!  I delight in You and amazing Word that reveals Your mind and truth to me by the Holy Spirit!  Amen.

The blessed man!

Scripture reading for June 4th: Psalms 1-6

The Book of Psalms was the hymnbook of the Hebrew people and was used in worship and prayer.  The word “psalm” denotes a “song sung to the accompaniment of a plucked instrument.”  These psalms had at least seven different authors and were written over nearly a thousand years, from the time of Moses to the return from exile in Babylon.  David was one of the primary authors and many reflect his own prayers, worship, fears, and desires as he experience the full range of life in all it’s emotional ups and downs!

The first psalm was about a man who was blessed by God.  There were several things this man did not do.  He didn’t walk in the counsel of the wicked.  He also didn’t stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers.  This man knew what to avoid because he delighted in the law of the Lord!  He meditated on that law day and night.  From that law he gained understanding of good and evil, righteousness and wickedness.

The man who was blessed was like a tree planted by streams of water.  This tree was always bearing fruit and leafy and green because it’s roots were well supplied with moisture and nutrients.  Even when it was dry and hot, it was not lacking because of the water supply it was tapped into.

This blessed man was contrasted with the wicked man.  The wicked man was pictured as the chaff of the wheat.  The wind came and blew it away.  Just like the chaff was separated from the wheat by the wind, so the sinner and wicked man would not stand in the time of God’s judgment!  They would be separated from the assembly of the righteous and blessed!  God would watch over the righteous but would also make sure the wicked perished!

We are to meditate on the Word of God and focus on the living Word, Jesus Christ the Righteous One!  Life flows from Him like a stream of water and in Him we find eternal life!  God loves to bless those who sit at His feet, stand in His way and walk by faith in His Word!

The Blessed Man!

Scripture reading for June 4th: Psalms 1-6

The Book of Psalms was the hymnbook of the Hebrew people and was used in worship and prayer.  The word “psalm” denotes a “song sung to the accompaniment of a plucked instrument.”  These psalms had at least seven different authors and were written over nearly a thousand years, from the time of Moses to the return from exile.  David was one of the primary authors and  many reflect his own prayers, worship, fears, and desires as he walked with God.

Psalm 1 is about a man who is blessed by God.  There are some things this man does not do.  He doesn’t walk in the counsel of the wicked.  He also doesn’t stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers.   This man knows what to do because he delights in the law of the Lord!  He is meditating on that law day and night.  From that law he clearly understands good and evil.

The ‘blessed man’ was compared to a tree planted by streams of water.  This tree was always bearing fruit and was leafy and green because it’s roots were well supplied with moisture and nutrients.  Even when it was dry and hot, it drew its water from God’s stream.    God abundantly supplied this man because of his faith in God’s word.

This blessed man was contrasted with the wicked man.  The wicked man was pictured as the chaff off of the wheat.  The wind came and blew it away.  It was good for nothing but to be burned up.  Just like the chaff that is separated from the wheat by the wind, so the sinner and wicked man will not stand in the time of God’s judgment!  They will be separated from the assembly of the righteous and blessed!  God is watching over the righteous to provide and protect and ultimately reward them.  God is also going to make sure the wicked perish!

This song about the blessed man is for us today!  We are to meditate on the Word of God and focus on the living Word, Jesus Christ!  Life flows from Him and in Him we find eternal life!  Blessing is favor and a river of good flowing from the source of all blessing, God.  God loves to bless those who sit at His feet, stand in His way and walk by faith in His Word.
