Sunday rest: People of Zion
Dear “People of Zion”,
God’s great understanding of individuals and nations and His control of history amazes me! God is on a throne, high and lifted up! He is worthy of worship and adoration! He has plans that He has brought to pass and others that await fulfillment. He raises up nations and leaders and brings them down just as easily. He is just and righteous in all He does and is always merciful to those who trust in Him.
God called believers “People of Zion”. (Isaiah 12:6) Mt. Zion was the city stronghold of the Jebusites that was captured by King David. It became the “city of David”. It was here that God had His temple built by Solomon and had His dwelling place among the Israelites in the promised land. Zion was a place that the Lord loved. (Psalm 78:68) It was the city chosen by God to install His King! (Psalm 2:6) The Lord’s blessings flows out of Zion to His people. (Psalm 128:5) God is laying a Cornerstone in Zion that will be precious for His people! (Isaiah 28:16) His eternal dwelling place will be in Zion and that makes that place more special than any other on earth!
In Isaiah 12, God told His people that they would be comforted from all their troubles one day. They could trust in God and not be afraid. He was their strength and song, and had become their salvation. (Isaiah 12:2-3) With joy they would draw water from the wells of salvation in Zion. From Zion, they would make known what The Lord had done to save them. They would exalt His Name among the nations. They would sing and shout for joy because of God would be in their midst.
We are now people of Zion too! We can publish to the nations that our God saves. He is our strength and song. We have drunk the water from the well that never runs dry. God has done glorious things for us! He is great among the “people of Zion” because He lives in us today and forever! Take time to reflect on Isaiah 12 and this city of Zion. What a way to find rest and confidence in our great God and the Cornerstone He has laid for us in Zion! (Isaiah 28:16)

Resurrection mystery unfolded!
Scripture reading for September 14th: Isaiah 53-55, Psalm 128, 1st Corinthians 15
Key Scriptures: 1st Corinthians 15:50-53 “I tell you this, brothers; flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality.”
Paul explained the mystery of the resurrection, using a seed as an illustration. The seed going into the ground may not have any resemblance to the plant that will grow from it. So the fleshly body that is put in the grave will be raised a spiritual body full of life eternal. Jesus Christ is the fore-runner. His body was buried but raised on the third day a glorious immortal body. As believers in Jesus, we may not understand it, but we wait expectantly for the last trumpet! The best is yet to come!
Psalm 128:5 “The Lord bless you from Zion! May you see the prosperity of Jerusalem all the days of your life!”
Faith confession and prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for explaining the mystery of the resurrection body and showing Yours to the disciples. Empower me to share this mystery to bless Your people with heavenly vision and eternal life.
Isaiah 53:10 “Yet it was the will of the Lord to crush Him; He has put Him to grief; when His soul makes an offering for guilt, He shall see His offspring; He shall prolong His days; the will of the Lord shall prosper in His hand.”
