Remembering Jesus!

Scripture reading for July 19th:  Psalm 30-33, 1st Corinthians 11

Key Scriptures: 1st Corinthians 11:23-26 “For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when He was betrayed took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it, and said, “This is My body which is for you.  Do this in remembrance of Me.”  In the Same way also He took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the New Covenant in My blood.  Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”  For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.”

Paul passed on the sacrament of the Lord’s supper to the Corinthian believers.  He had gotten this from the Lord Jesus, Himself.  Jesus had shared the meaning of the elements of the bread and cup of grape juice with His disciples at His last meal with them on earth before the crucifixion.  The bread represented His body, broken for them, their true sustenance.  The cup of wine represented His shed blood that granted them forgiveness of sins.  The sacrament was to be taken as often as they desired in remembrance of Jesus, proclaiming His sacrificial death until He returned for them.

Psalm 32:1-2 “Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.  Blessed is the man against whom the Lord counts no iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit.”

Prayer:  Lord, thank You for Your body and blood, broken and poured out for my sins.  I receive Your promise of covering and the blessing of eternal life with You.  Amen!
